Technician I, Floor Care

Technician I, Floor Care is a specialized position within the custodial department at Cape Fear Community College. Floor Care Technician I primary responsibility are the restoration, preservation, and upkeep of flooring surfaces across various facilities on property of CFCC. In the event custodial help is needed, this position will temporarily fill custodial needs on occasion as directed by the supervisor. Such needs may include but are not limited to: mopping, general cleaning, emptying trash, cleaning restrooms, etc. Supervision received and exercised: Receives general supervision from the Director of Custodial. Exercises no supervision. Essential functions and qualifications statements: Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: Technician I Floor Care will strip, wax, and buff floors as scheduled using proper and professional floor maintenance equipment and chemicals. Knowledge of identifying and addressing floor care issues. Floor Technician I will perform duties which include moving large furniture and objects with care and implement certain safety guidelines to avoid injury. Professional knowledge of various floor types, cleaning methods, and equipment operation. Including but not limited to, Hi/Low speed buffers, automatic floor scrubbers, carpet cleaners, commercial vacuums, steamers, extractors, etc. Technician I Floor Care will need to ensure the completion of floor maintenance in accordance with professional specifications, proper procedures and timely efficiencies. Technician I Floor Care must learn work order system and building floor plans. Responsible for monitoring the working areas for safety by utilizing the safety barricades, wet floor signs, etc. remove them after floor maintenance is completed. Must follow the safety rules and regulations established within CFCC safety and custodial processes. Flexible full-time schedule; working various shifts including nights, weekends and holidays. Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift heavy equipment for extended period to use floor maintenance equipment and supplies. Ability to lift 50+ lbs. without assistance. Knowledge of: Professional knowledge of building floor specifications, supplies and equipment. Professional knowledgeable of various floor cleaning equipment, such as Hi/Low speed buffers, propane buffers, and automatic floor scrubbers. Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift heavy equipment for extended period to use floor maintenance equipment and supplies. Ability to lift 50+ lbs. without assistance. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Interpret and apply CFCC goals, objectives, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations. Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for: Making observations. Reading and writing. Communicating with others. Operating assigned equipment. Handling varied tasks simultaneously. Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include the following: Standing or sitting for extended periods of time. Operating assigned equipment. Handling varied tasks simultaneously. Bending, stooping, climbing, or lifting up to 50 pounds. Maintain mental capacity, which allow the capability of: Making sound decisions. Responding to questions. Demonstrating intellectual capabilities. Minimum Education/Training: High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum Experience: Minimum of 1 year of verifiable floor cleaning experience; provide work accomplished. Valid NCDL driver's license; proof is required. Clean driving record; proof is required.
