Description
The Carpenter I is a hands-on craftsperson with proven experience building crates, pallets, and custom packaging-onsite and offsite. Skilled in material selection (lumber, plywood, engineered products), precise measurement/cutting, and solid assembly methods (nailing, stapling, screwing, gluing) to meet specs and deadlines. Detail-oriented with a quality-first mindset; inspects work to ensure conformance before shipment. A reliable team player who collaborates smoothly with designers, engineers, and logistics, maintains a clean and safe work area, and is flexible to perform other duties as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Crate and Pallet Construction: Build and assemble crates, pallets, and other packaging materials according to specifications and design requirements, onsite and offsite. Material Handling: Select appropriate materials such as wood, plywood, and engineered products for construction based on project needs and industry standards. Measurement and Cutting: Measure, cut, and shape materials accurately using hand and power tools to ensure precise dimensions and fit. Assembly and Fastening: Assemble components using techniques such as nailing, stapling, screwing, and gluing, ensuring structural integrity and durability. Quality Control: Inspect finished products to verify conformance to design specifications and quality standards before shipping. Team Collaboration: Work closely with other team members including designers, engineers, and logistics personnel to coordinate crate and pallet building schedules and requirements. Safety and Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines while operating tools and equipment. Maintain a clean and organized work area. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
1-2 years of proven experience as a crate builder, carpenter, or similar role in a manufacturing or construction environment. High School Diploma or equivalent preferred Proficiency in using a variety of hand and power tools, including saws, drills, and measuring devices. Ability to interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics. Strong attention to detail and precision in measurements and assembly. Good physical stamina and dexterity to handle materials and perform repetitive tasks. Knowledge of safety protocols and practices in a workshop setting. Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Must be bilingual (English / Spanish) PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Vocational training or certification in carpentry, woodworking, or a related field. Previous experience in building crates or packaging solutions for industrial or commercial applications. Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and practices. KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Follows written work instructions and standard operating procedures (SOPs) Communicates clearly with supervisors and teammates (verbal and written) Delivers courteous, responsive customer service to internal/external partners Participates in continuous learning and skill development Maintains a strong quality focus; meets accuracy and compliance standards Demonstrates meticulous attention to detail in counts, labeling, and documentation Shows interest in obtaining HazMat/Dangerous Goods certifications; willing to train DIRECT REPORTS

Maintain cleanliness and organization of assigned work areas, and common spaces in accordance with company housekeeping standards. Must follow all written work instructions and adhere to company safety protocols at all times Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as mandated by task and environment Expected to promptly escalate any safety or quality concerns to management or the QHSE department Must be able to navigate the warehouse safely and efficiently Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment Must be able to work in an outdoor warehouse environment and be exposed to changing weather conditions, including hot, cold, and dusty environments May be exposed to high levels of noise, dust, and prolonged artificial lighting PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching within the warehouse environment. Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to
50-75 lbs
unassisted (e.g., packages, crates, or materials). Regular use of hands and arms to handle, move, or position materials, including operating manual equipment such as tools and pallet jacks. Sufficient visual acuity to read shipping labels, SDS sheets, and regulatory markings, in addition to computer screens and documents. Ability to hear and speak clearly in person and over radios/phones in potentially noisy environments. Able to operate office equipment (computer, scanner, copier, calculator) as well as basic warehouse tools and equipment. WORK SCHEDULE
Standard schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with flexibility for occasional Saturdays, overtime, or adjusted hours as needed to meet operational demands.
