Description

The DG Specialist I is responsible for supporting day-to-day operations-shipment planning, documentation, carrier coordination, and compliance-while following SOPs to deliver safe, compliant, on-time service. Communicates clearly with customers and internal teams, applies the basics of 49 CFR, IATA, and IMDG, and knows when to escalate non-routine or complex cases. Detail-oriented, organized, and coachable, they maintain audit-ready records, work safely in warehouse and secured/TSA areas, and manage time well to meet cutoffs. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Serve as a customer interface via email, phone, and on-site facility visits. Ensure all customer emails and calls are acknowledged within 2 business hours of receipt. Manage assigned accounts efficiently and professionally. Provide

i temized pricing on file (DG, packing/crating, carrier, surcharges) to customers. Plan fleet/load/shipments for imports and exports. Coordinate shipment/packing schedules to meet cutoffs and customer requirements. Handle carrier management, including pickup coordination and special handling requests. Apply the appropriate regulations and references for each mode of transportation. Ensure job breakdowns, work instructions, SOPs, and regulations are followed. Classify shipments, using the SDS and applicable modal regulations, (UN/ID, Proper Shipping Name, Class/Division, Packing Group, Packing Instruction/quantity limits), verify compatibility/segregation, and specify required marks, labels, and declarations Mark and label cargo accurately and in accordance with requirements. Complete all required checklists for each job. Perform accurate data entry and maintain complete job records. Support freight audit and bill-pay preparation (documentation, reconciliations, and approvals). Mentor others toward Dangerous Goods best practices and common company goals Assist teammates with daily activities as needed to meet operational goals. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

High school diploma or equivalent (GED), or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience 1-3 years of experience in hazardous materials or related shipping/receiving/forwarding with exposure to DG tasks (classification, packing, marks/labels, or documentation). Successful completion of IATA, IMDG, and 49 CFR training within 90 days of hire, with a minimum score of 90%. Possess working knowledge of DOT/IATA/IMDG/49 CFR and other applicable federal/state regulations. Possess a strong customer service mindset; quality-focused, meticulous, and organized. Effective time management with the ability to prioritize and plan operational workload. Proficiency with Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams). Experience with international trade and/or freight forwarding, preferred. Knowledge of BC or C2C software (or similar operating/TMS platforms), preferred. Prior hands-on exposure to hazardous materials and/or cargo transportation beyond classroom training, preferred. KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to communicate clearly via email and phone. Ability to collaborate with individuals at all levels and backgrounds (internal and external). Relationship-building skills with internal teams, customers, and carriers. Analytical and critical thinking; applies strategic thinking, scenario planning, and risk-mitigation concepts. Adaptable and patient; adjusts quickly to changing priorities and conditions. This position has no direct reports. WORK ENVIRONMENT AND SAFETY EXPECTATIONS

Maintain cleanliness and organization of assigned work areas, and common spaces in accordance with company housekeeping standards. Must follow all written work instructions and adhere to company safety protocols at all times Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as mandated by task and environment Expected to promptly escalate any safety or quality concerns to management or the QHSE department Must be able to navigate the warehouse safely and efficiently Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment Must be able to work in indoors & outdoor warehouse environment and be exposed to changing weather conditions, including hot, cold, and dusty environments PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Frequently sitting, standing, walking, bending, and reaching within the warehouse and office environment. Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to

50 lbs

unassisted (e.g., packages, crates, or materials). Regular use of hands and arms to handle, move, or position materials, including operating

manual equipment such as tools & pallet jacks . Sufficient visual acuity to read shipping labels, SDS sheets, and regulatory markings, in addition to computer screens and documents. Ability to hear and speak clearly in person and over radios/phones in potentially noisy environments. Able to operate office equipment (computer, scanner, copier, calculator) as well as basic warehouse tools and equipment. WORK SCHEDULE

The standard schedule isTuesday through Saturday, 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m, with flexibility for occasional overtime or adjusted hours as needed to meet operational demands.
