Job Title: Cardiac Sonographer Profession: Radiology / Cardiology Specialty: Echo Tech/Cardiac Sonographer Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day 5x8-Hour Hours per Shift: 07:00 - 15:30 Experience: Minimum one year of cardiac experience required. License: Registered in echocardiography (RCS or RDCS). Certifications: BLS must be certified through American Heart Association only. Must-Have: Successful completion of a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs approved ultrasound program. Associate Degree in Biological Sciences, Radiology, Ultrasound, or relevant health sciences field. Description: The Cardiac Sonographer independently performs professional level assessments and various non-invasive studies using ultrasound and related diagnostic technology. They record the results and provide clinical preliminary impressions as indicated. The results of these exams are used to guide patient care. The sonographer uses cognitive sonographic skills to identify, record, and adapt procedures to evaluate anatomical, pathological, and diagnostic disease processes. They assist with transthoracic echo, transesophageal echo, and stress testing, including dobutamine and treadmill exercise stress echo and carotid duplex. The sonographer communicates preliminary impressions of examination results to reading and supervising physicians. All examinations are performed within standard protocols on adults and geriatric patients, and occasionally on adolescents and pediatric age groups. The sonographer performs examinations using both stationary and portable equipment. They serve as a clinical instructor and participate in the instruction of fellows and residents. The sonographer may also engage in clinical research and act as a clinical resource. The facility requirements specify that traveler's permanent address must be 50 miles from the assigned primary work site location. Travelers may have shifts scheduled in multiple units based on current staffing needs. If the primary unit no longer has a need during the traveler's assignment, shifts will be reassigned to another unit to complete the contract. This position requires administering ultrasound enhancement agents and completing an expectation of seven scans per day, meeting the pace and volume requirements.
