Job Title: Certified OR Tech / Surgical Tech (CST) Profession: Surgical Services Specialty: Surgical Technician Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 10 hours (09:00 - 21:30) Experience: Minimum 2 years in acute care hospital as a surgical technologist License: Valid State License required Certifications: BLS, CST preferred Must-Have: Must be proficient in Ophthalmology, including Cataract and Vitrectomy. Must be experienced in Ortho, Neuro, Robotics, and Ophthalmology. Travel experience required. Description: Certified OR Tech needed for a 4x10 schedule. On-call shifts required. Weekends as needed. Under the supervision of a registered nurse, the Surgical Technologist II participates as a member of the perioperative team. The Surgical Technologist II performs direct and indirect perioperative tasks for patients undergoing surgical and endoscopic procedures and assists anesthesia personnel. The primary focus of this position is the scrub role. The staff member must be able to participate in the planning and provision of perioperative care for patients in various stages of adulthood. The Surgical Technologist II will work on a flexible schedule as assigned by supervisory staff. Weekend shifts are assigned on a rotating basis. Preoperative Functions: Assists in selecting supplies and equipment for surgical and endoscopic procedures. Collaborates with the circulating nurse to prepare the operating room for surgical procedures utilizing medical preference lists. Responsible for preparing the operating room bed and setting up specialty tables. Secures instruments, supplies, and equipment needed for surgical procedures. Opens sterile packages using sterile technique. Intraoperative Functions: Provides scrub services for minor surgical procedures. Delivers competent scrub services for major procedures in at least three surgical specialties. Assists the surgeon in applying casts and splints. Supports the circulating nurse during major surgical procedures. Sets up specialized surgical equipment under the supervision of an RN. Assists with tasks directed by the surgeon, including holding retractors or instruments, sponging or suctioning the operative site, and connecting drains to suction apparatus. Assumes responsibility for care of specimens while on the field and communicates accurate information for documentation. Postoperative Duties: Assists in transferring the patient to postoperative beds. Performs cleaning tasks in the operating room. Cleans anesthesia machines after use. Technical Subject Matter Expert Functions: Serves as a technical subject matter expert in at least one surgical service. Assists with maintenance of medical preference lists. Demonstrates competency in operating specialty instruments and equipment. Serves as a preceptor to personnel rotating through specialty services. Miscellaneous Functions: Reports defective materials or equipment to supervisory staff. Maintains a clean and safe environment. Assists with the evaluation of specialty instruments and equipment. Participates in orientation of new employees. Professional Expectations: Attends and actively participates in continuing education classes. Demonstrates commitment to unit and department goals. Follows established guidelines for customer service and communications. Adheres to organizational policies regarding confidentiality and care quality. Identifies opportunities to enhance work processes or safety which improve care or service quality. Promotes patient and staff safety. Education: Equivalent experience will be accepted in lieu of the required degree or diploma. High school diploma or equivalent education experience. Diploma from an accredited surgical technology program or documented on-the-job training preferred. Typical Experience: Minimum two years recent acute care hospital experience in a surgical technologist role, with documented competency to scrub major procedures in at least three surgical specialties preferred.
