Job Title: Mammography Technologist Profession: Tech Specialty: Mammography Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 10 hours Experience: Minimum years of experience required License: Current Rad Tech license in the state of practice Certifications: ARRT registration, Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers, Must meet and maintain the ARRT Advanced Mammography Certification, Must meet and maintain mammography specific ACR FDA/MQSA requirements Must-Have: Demonstrates positioning competency Knowledgeable regarding breast self-examinations Description: The Mammography Technologist performs radiographic mammography procedures to produce high-quality diagnostic films for detecting breast tissue abnormalities. This position works independently and performs a variety of procedures requiring judgment, creativity, and initiative. Ensures proper patient identification and order verification, and prepares the patient for the exam. Performs radiologic mammography exams per department protocol, including advanced procedures like stereotactic biopsies and clip placements. Operates mammographic equipment and ensures that diagnostic images of high quality are produced. Appropriately uses equipment, maneuvers the unit, and selects techniques to produce diagnostic images. Uses radiation protection to ensure the safety of patients and staff while meeting all ALARA program requirements. Keeps current on new procedures and equipment to maintain high-level skills. Maintains records as required by regulations and thoroughly completes all required documentation, including time stamps and image storage.
