Job Title: Mammography Technologist Profession: Tech Specialty: Mammography Duration: 12 months Shift: Day 10 Hours per Shift: 10 Experience: Minimum years of experience required License: Current Rad Tech license in the state of practice Certifications: - ARRT registration - Must meet and maintain the ARRT Advanced Mammography Certification - Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers - Must meet and maintain mammography specific ACR FDA/MQSA requirements Must-Have: - Demonstrates positioning competency - Knowledge regarding breast self-examinations, capable of answering questions and providing written materials to patients - Skills in lifting, manual dexterity, pulling/pushing, seeing, speaking, standing, and walking Description: The Mammography Technologist performs radiographic mammography procedures. These procedures produce high quality diagnostic images for detecting breast tissue abnormalities. This position operates independently without constant supervision. A variety of procedures that require independent judgment, creativity, and initiative are performed. Ensures proper patient identification and order verification. Prepares patients for examinations. Performs radiologic mammography exams per department protocol. Includes advanced mammography procedures like stereotactic biopsies, clip placements, and drainages. Operates mammographic equipment to ensure high quality diagnostic images are produced. Uses equipment appropriately and maneuvers the unit for optimal results. Selects techniques to produce diagnostic images effectively. Utilizes radiation protection to ensure safety for patients and staff. Meets all applicable safety program requirements. Keeps current on new procedures and equipment to maintain high skill levels. Maintains records required by regulatory bodies.
