Overview
Assists with supervising operations, aquatic programs, special events, aquatic personnel and related maintenance of the designated aquatic facility. In addition, the Assistant Pool Manager will work cohesively with other members of the Aquatics Division to develop the strategies leading to the accomplishment of division goals. Responsibilities
Ensures the personal safety of facility users by enforcing all rules and regulations. Assists in maintaining the aquatic facility and surrounding area, including opening and closing checklists and the daily testing and documenting of pool chemicals and maintenance when on duty. Notifies supervisor of chemical inventory and equipment supplies. Assists the front desk at The REC as needed. Greets the public, provides information and assistance regarding pool schedules, registration, program descriptions, and other general pool information over the phone and in person. May collect fees, prepare bank deposits, and department records and reports when working at the front desk or outdoor pools. Assists with planning and attends regular in-service training, evaluates, and gives instructions to lifeguards to improve techniques. Assists with the supervision of maintenance and operation of the aquatic facilities by working with the Aquatics Maintenance Technician, the Parks division and outside vendors through the Aquatics Supervisor. Assists in the supervision of activities and gives direction to the staff to accomplish daily activities, including cleaning, facility safety checks and on-going training, goals, and departmental objectives. Serves as the facility supervisor when full-time staff and the Pool Manager are off-duty. Assists in the scheduling of part-time staff. Assists with the evaluation and documentation of employee performance against established standards as defined by the Aquatics division. Covers various management shifts at Dove Waterpark, Pleasant Glade Pool and The REC Aquatic Center. Performs related duties as directed when such duties are a logical and appropriate assignment to the position. Maintains regular and timely attendance and ensures accurate timekeeping in Paycom with minimal corrections. Interacts professionally and respectfully with the public, coworkers, and others in the course of daily work. Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
Effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work outside in inclement weather, including high heat and humidity, for multiple hours with few breaks. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Good written and oral communication skills and be able to communicate effectively with parents and youth. Ability to make sound decisions in an emergency situation. Ability to deal effectively with the public and possess an outstanding customer service attitude. Education, Experience and Other Requirements
A minimum of three months of lifeguarding experience or equivalent is required. Equivalent experience may include water safety instructors, swim lesson coordinators, or positions that involve supervising, teaching, training and/or managing large groups of young people typically ages 15-21. Must obtain initial Lifeguard, CPR, AED, and First Aid certification prior to date of hire. Food Manager certification is required prior to working at Dove Waterpark. Lifeguard Instructor certification preferred. Certifications must be maintained while employed in the job. Must pass a Federal/National criminal background check and have a valid Texas driver’s license with an acceptable driving record as defined by City policy. Must pass a pre-employment drug screen.
