Assistant Facility Supervisor - Aquatics Position: Assistant Facility Supervisor – Aquatics at Pascua Yaqui Tribe.

Basic Function Responsible for ensuring all recreational activities are conducted safely and orderly for the Parks & Recreation Department. Leads development and implementation of recreational programming and supervises staff when Facility Supervisor is absent. Requires weekend and evening work.

Reports To Facility Supervisor - Aquatics

Positions Supervised 2-3 Lifeguard II, Lifeguard I, and Pool Attendants.

Typical Duties

Provide technical direction of work production to lower-level positions.

Provide aquatic recreational activities for children, youth, adults, and persons with disabilities; prepare daily and monthly lesson plans.

Issue passes for recreational programs and enforce safety rules.

Conduct routine clean up and general maintenance of locker rooms and natatorium seating; perform custodial duties.

Clean, repair, and maintain chemical feed systems and pool equipment; perform State of Alaska‑required pool water testing (calculate, mix, add chemicals with required safety gear).

Perform lifeguard duties; supervise and respond to emergencies.

Inspect facilities for damage or safety concerns; monitor chemical systems to ensure pool safety.

Inform participants of facility rules; reinforce scheduled activities; answer patrons’ questions and refer to manager as needed.

Check patrons in and out of locker rooms on sign-up sheets.

Assist setup and teardown for special events at pool and tennis courts.

Open and close facilities for daily activities; secure and close facilities; complete daily attendance and revenue reports; balance change fund and reconcile deposits at shift end.

Plan, organize, and implement special events and recreational programs.

Register participants and communicate with parents, teachers, care providers, and organizations concerning programs and events; evaluate students for proper placement in swim programs; teach learn‑to‑swim and other aquatic lessons.

Operate a point‑of‑sale system; process cash, checks, and credit card sales; take facility reservations using recreation scheduling software; build and maintain online facility programs and schedules; troubleshoot software issues.

Position Requirements Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree or higher in Recreation Management or related field preferred.

Minimum two (2) years direct work experience organizing events or teaching programs to children, youth, seniors, or individuals with physical or developmental disabilities.

Minimum six (6) months supervisory experience required.

Minimum six (6) months experience dealing with the public, operating a personal computer and/or cash register, and handling cash.

Must possess and maintain certification as a Water Safety Instructor, Lifeguarding, First Aid and CPR/AED as recognized by the American Red Cross (or equivalent); ability to obtain Waterpark Lifeguarding within three (3) months of hire.

Must be at least 18 years old.

Demonstrated understanding of pool chemical requirements or 3 months experience in testing and maintaining chemical balance.

Must have a valid driver’s license and maintain insurance standards required under the Borough’s insurance program; proof of insurance at statutory limits required if personal automobile is used for Borough business.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

Strong organizational skills; ability to communicate clearly and effectively with participants, caregivers, and agencies.

Knowledge of methods and practices of group organization and instruction used in specialty activities.

Knowledge of State of Alaska DEC health code regulations; basic pool operations, water testing, and chemical adjustment. Certified Pool Operators Certification preferred.

Ability to wear a respirator and pass a physical.

Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, email, MS Office).

Proficiency test may be administered.

Job Responsibility Supervisory responsibilities: directs the workflow of permanent, temporary, seasonal, and volunteer staff; manages minor problems daily and occasional major ones; must use initiative when Supervisor is absent; errors may require serious recovery efforts.

Work Environment A recreational facility with occasional heat, cold, wet, moist conditions; up to half time standing or walking where hazards are minor; requires short moderate lifting (26–50 lbs); extended time in the pool; exposure to blood or bodily fluids may occur.
