Job Title: Principal Operational Engineer – AWS & Amazon Connect

Location: Remote (U.S.) (must be sitting in CST or EST)

Salary Range: $105 an hour via w2.

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Principal Operational Engineer with deep expertise in AWS cloud infrastructure and Amazon Connect. This senior-level role is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining secure, scalable, and resilient cloud-based solutions while providing technical leadership across teams.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
  • 8+ years of cloud engineering experience, with at least 5 focused on AWS
  • Extensive expertise with AWS services (EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, VPC)
  • Strong hands-on experience with Amazon Connect and related services (Amazon Lex, Polly, etc.)
  • Proficiency with infrastructure-as-code tools (CloudFormation, Terraform)
  • Strong scripting skills in Python, Bash, or PowerShell
  • Experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Strong understanding of networking concepts and cloud security best practices
  • AWS Professional-level certifications (Solutions Architect, DevOps Engineer, or similar)

Preferred Skills & Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field
  • Experience with multi-cloud strategies (Azure, GCP)
  • Familiarity with AI/ML services in AWS
  • Knowledge of data analytics and visualization tools
  • Experience with Agile methodologies and project management practices

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and implementation of complex AWS architectures, with a strong focus on Amazon Connect for contact center operations
  • Establish and maintain best practices for cloud operations, security, and cost optimization
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineering teams
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of AWS services and Amazon Connect with existing systems
  • Oversee performance tuning, capacity planning, and resource optimization
  • Implement and manage CI/CD pipelines for efficient deployments
  • Design and test disaster recovery and business continuity strategies
  • Stay up to date with the latest AWS services and features
  • Troubleshoot complex issues and deliver high-level technical support for critical systems
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for systems, architectures, and processes
