Job Description: Solid Waste Operator II

The City of Clinton is currently accepting applications for a full-time Solid Waste Operator II in the Public Works department. This is an on-site position in Clinton, Iowa, offering hourly pay with a range of $21.45-$24.52 per hour based on qualifications, and an expectation of working 40 hours a week plus overtime as needed.

Under direct supervision of the Streets/Solid Waste Supervisor, the Operator II performs manual work that is routine in nature but can be physically demanding. Required work includes driving and operating medium to heavy-duty equipment such as single- or dual-armed packer trucks, snow plows, and pot hole patching equipment.

Qualifications:

Knowledge of safety precautions in the operation of equipment and safe work practices with a high degree of skill in operating heavy equipment. Knowledge of traffic regulations and laws, and the practices followed in the safe operation of medium to heavy-duty trucks and heavy equipment. Additional requirements include knowledge in the use and care of tools, local geography, and street and road systems, as well as the ability to understand, follow, and communicate oral and written instructions.

Special Requirements:

• High School diploma or GED
• Possession of a valid Iowa Motor Vehicle Operator's License with an excellent driving record
• Possession of and the ability to maintain a Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Air Brake Endorsement

The work environment includes exposure to heat and cold, with the majority of work assignments outdoors in all weather conditions. Normal work week hours are 7 am – 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday.
