Job Summary

As the Accounting Manager, you will lead daily accounting operations focused on premium accounting, commission reconciliation, and carrier payables. You'll ensure trust account compliance and support strategic initiatives aligned with regulatory and industry standards. This role is essential to maintaining financial integrity and operational efficiency, while also contributing to the annual audit process and special projects.

A Day in The Life
  • Oversee daily accounting operations, including client invoicing, premium remittance, carrier payables, and general ledger activities.
  • Monitor and adjust team workflows to meet deadlines and ensure accuracy.
  • Review account reconciliations, production system reports, carrier and return premium payments, and commission tracking.
  • Ensure compliance with insurance trust accounting regulations and maintain segregation of client funds.
  • Provide technical support and problem-solving assistance to team members.
  • Coordinate with producers and account managers to resolve billing and collections discrepancies.
  • Manage accounting for contingent commissions, overrides, and profit-sharing agreements.
  • Monitor KPIs related to receivable aging, premium payment timeliness, billing accuracy, and commission reporting.
  • Deliver timely and constructive feedback to direct reports to enhance procedures and performance.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to establish best practices and improve operational efficiencies.
  • Identify financial risks and recommend solutions; escalate issues as needed.
  • Establish controls for financial systems and interface with IT to ensure system effectiveness.
  • Assist with the coordination of the external annual audit process and prepare audit materials.
  • Create financial schedules and journal entries for complex accounting scenarios.
  • Support the preparation of annual financial forecasts and budgets.
  • Prepare various financial statements and detailed reports as requested.
  • Support due diligence and integration efforts for M&A activities.
What You'll Need
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting from a four-year college or university.
  • 5 to 10 years of related accounting experience, preferably in the insurance brokerage industry.
  • Previous experience in general accounting and managing accounting teams.
  • Strong knowledge of insurance brokerage operations, including premium billing, carrier reconciliation, and commission structures.
  • Familiarity with industry-specific systems such as Applied Epic, Vertafore, or Sagitta
