The Assistant Production Editor supports the publishing activities of Purdue University Press in concert with the Indiana Department of Transportation’s Joint Technical Report Program (JTRP) series, which includes producing and supporting the creation and dissemination of technical reports and other digital and print publications that advance research, teaching, and engagement goals. Specific responsibilities include copyediting, typesetting, and proofreading; maintaining databases and websites; corresponding with authors, editors, and stakeholders; performing quality checks on content received; writing ancillary materials connected to publications; tracking progress of content through all publishing processes to ensure deadlines are met; and maintaining detailed records.
Research, write, edit and consult on the design of printed and electronic communication materials. This may include marketing material, brochures, posters, web pages, and other communication material. Plan communication material content, layout, use of graphics, and publication processes. Participate in the development and implementation of communication plans. Identify appropriate audience, objectives, deliverables and deadlines.

Qualifications
- BA/BS with courses in Communication, English, or related field.
- Will accept an equivalent combination of education and related work; or experience gained through academic internships, and/or student employment.
- One (1) year related experience required.
Skills Needed
- Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language, including the meaning and spelling of words and grammar
- Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook; including high level skill in managing files and records
- Ability to communicate ideas and information to others at a high level both in writing and orally
- Must be able to prioritize, organize, and accomplish work while managing multiple projects simultaneously
- Capable to work under pressure while still paying close attention to detail
- Ability to work within a matrix environment, where direction may be received from several different colleagues
- Have the capacity to take initiative to learn new knowledge and skills
- Ability to work effectively with individuals from different viewpoints, cultures, and backgrounds
- Ability to build relationships and respond courteously and effectively to others
What Is Helpful
- Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, book and journal design, and the manipulation of images and text files
- Skill using digital publishing technologies
- Understanding of Purdue University's culture and strategic priorities
