Job Description

Follow routine cleaning and maintenance procedures to maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency of building operations and grounds so that full educational use may be made at all times. Responsibilities

• Cleaning: Maintain a cleaning schedule that will include efficient cleaning of floors, chalkboards, wastebaskets, windows, furniture, equipment, and restrooms.
• Cleaning: Keep school building and grounds, including sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, and play areas, neat and clean.
• Cleaning: Comply with local laws and procedures for storage and disposal of trash.
• Cleaning: Assist in maintaining an inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment and request additional supplies as needed.

• Maintenance and Repair: Assist with lunchroom set up, including arranging tables and chairs.
• Maintenance and Repair: Perform preventive maintenance to ensure the comfort, health, and safety of students and staff.
• Maintenance and Repair: Regulate heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide appropriate temperatures and ensure economical usage of fuel, water, and electricity.
• Maintenance and Repair: Make minor building repairs as needed and report major repair needs to principal.
• Maintenance and Repair: Move furniture or equipment within building as directed by principal.
• Maintenance and Repair: Assist in setting up facilities for special events.

• Safety: Assist with opening and closing building each school day.
• Safety: Follow established procedures for locking, checking, and safeguarding facilities.
• Safety: Check daily to ensure that all exit doors are open and all panic bolts are working properly during hours of building occupancy.
• Safety: Inspect machines and equipment for safety and efficiency.
• Safety: Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
• Safety: Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.
• Safety: Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.

• Other: Display tolerance necessary for accepting supervision for and criticism of job performance.
• Other: Work in harmony with supervisory, faculty, and peer personnel.
• Other: Use professional information discreetly and judiciously.
• Other: Support and follow administrative and Board policy.
• Other: Represent the school system to the community in a positive and professional way.
• Other: Maintain a sincere, friendly attitude toward patrons and exhibit excellent customer service.
• Other: Regular attendance is required.
• Other: Perform all other duties as assigned.

Experience

Experience in custodial work or the willingness to learn

Ability to read and understand instructions for cleaning, maintenance, and safety procedures
Knowledge of minor repair techniques and building and grounds maintenance
Ability to operate cleaning equipment and lift heavy equipment
Ability to properly handle cleaning supplies
Ability to follow assigned instructions
Ability to perform physical labor
Team oriented and self-motivated
Neat in appearance
Enjoy children and youth
Bilingual preferred
