Position Summary
Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor, performs various tasks as necessary to provide recreation services to the St. George Community.
- Provide customer service in person.
- Respond to public inquiries, providing accurate information regarding recreation programs and services.
- Aid in the promotion and advertising of programs and special events.
- Copy and prepare various schedules and rosters for distribution.
- Organize, clean, prepare, and maintain recreation facilities and other work areas.
- Work programs and special events.
- Contribute to team effort by accomplishing other related duties as needed.
- Follow all city policies and procedures.
- Open and close the recreational facility, including turning on and off the complex lights as needed.
- Ensure there are the correct amount of referees/umpires and scorekeepers on each court/field.
- Monitor the games and the recreational facility, and track winners and losers.
- Enforce City rules on smoking, drinking, and safety.
- Provide support to the referee/umpires on the field if there are problems with coaches and/or players.
- Write incident reports on coaches/players if there are problems and/or ejections on the field.
- Update scores online and at the sites.
- Maintain the brackets on a game-by-game basis in tournaments.
- Answer questions on the brackets, including where the next game will be played and directions to the fields.
- Settle game protests on the field for all league play, and form a protest committee as needed to settle protests for tournaments.
- Present awards to winning teams for both league and tournament play.
- Turn in all game and tournament results to the Recreation Coordinator.
- Assist in developing a comprehensive sport program that includes scheduling, bracketing, organizing, publicizing, directing, and evaluating.
- Work with Recreation Supervisors to communicate the philosophy and objectives of the program to referees/umpires, other supervisors, and the public.

Conditions and temperatures may vary depending on the assignment.
Requires the use of vision and/or hearing to identify and evaluate emergencies.
Must be able to respond quickly and appropriately to emergencies.
Requires moderately heavy physical activity, exerting 25-50 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10-25 pounds of force frequently.
Mental demands of intermittent exposure to stress as a result of human behavior.
Qualifications
- Age Requirement: Must be 17 years of age or older.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Experience: Background in umpiring/refereeing and coaching is preferred.
Licenses and/or Certifications
- CPR, First Aid, AED certification required.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of rules and referee/umpire mechanics in a variety of sports.
- Working knowledge of league and tournament brackets with the ability to make minor changes in the brackets as needed during league and tournament play.
- Knowledge of park and field maintenance.
- Basic knowledge of computers.
Skill in being highly motivated, dependable, customer service-oriented, and computer literate.
- Ability to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally with coaches, players, and fans.
- Ability to handle tense situations by communicating with coaches and players.
- Ability to physically be on the court/field and support the referee/umpire in tense and sometimes emotional situations.
- Ability to accurately write reports, including descriptions of situations, injuries, and coach/player ejections.
