We are seeking a highly motivated scientist to join our Genetic Medicine team at Lilly’s Biotechnology Center in San Diego. The successful candidate will have a strong research track record in mRNA regulation and NGS applications. The scientist will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across key Lilly therapeutic areas to perform experiments to aid development of RNA oligonucleotide drug candidates for the next generation of RNA therapies.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop mRNA reporters and engineered cell lines for massively parallel reporter assays.
- Routinely perform cell transfection, mRNA purification, and mRNA quantitation
- Prepare samples for NGS applications (RNA-seq, PolyA-seq, 5’RACE)
- Independently problem-solve in the laboratory setting to overcome challenges and improve upon existing workflows
- Maintain laboratory equipment and manage laboratory inventory/consumables.
- Visualize, summarize, and present results to team members,
- Work with CROs to execute research studies
Basic Qualifications
- PhD in molecular biology, biology, or related scientific field with experience in post-transcriptional regulation
- 3+ years of relevant work experience
Additional Skills/Preferences
- Prior experience with RNA profiling and NGS tools (CLIP, RNA-seq, Ribo-seq), massively parallel reporter assays, cell-based high throughput screens
- Prior experience with cell-line engineering and recombinant nucleic acid methodologies
- Prior experience working with CROs
- Deep subject matter expertise in mRNA regulation, RNA binding proteins, NGS-based approaches, cell-line engineering, mRNA reporter systems, high throughput screens, transcriptome profiling
- Prior project management experience
- Excellent communication (oral/written), organization, interpersonal skills, and team-player mindset
