We are recruiting for a well-established general contractor based in Aurora, CO, with over 20 years of experience in the Denver area. They specialize in commercial and residential exterior restoration, with deep expertise in managing insurance claims for projects involving storm, hail, and wind damage. With new leadership focused on maximizing the company's value, they are seeking a dedicated professional to stabilize and manage their financial operations.
Position Summary: We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Accountant to take full ownership of the company’s financial and bookkeeping functions. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will be responsible for all day-to-day accounting, payroll, and light HR compliance. This is a critical role that requires a high level of accuracy, stability, and a deep understanding of construction accounting principles.
This position is fully on-site, as our current accounting systems are desktop-based. There is a potential for a hybrid schedule in the future, pending a migration to a cloud-based platform.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage full-cycle accounting, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and the general ledger using QuickBooks Desktop.
- Ensure accurate job costing and apply proper revenue recognition principles for construction projects.
- Process bi-weekly payroll accurately and on time, ensuring compliance with all state and federal requirements.
- Handle light HR administrative duties, including PTO tracking and maintaining compliant employee files (W4s, I-9s, etc.).
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and provide reports to the CEO.
- Manage vendor relationships, process invoices, and perform regular account reconciliations.
- Partner with the CEO to improve accounting controls, procedures, and systems.
- Assist with a future migration from QuickBooks Desktop to a cloud-based accounting solution.
Qualifications & Experience
- Experience: A minimum of 7 years of hands-on, full-cycle accounting experience. A stable work history is highly valued.
- Industry Knowledge: Experience in the construction, home services (HVAC, plumbing), or a related trade industry is strongly preferred.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in QuickBooks Desktop is mandatory. Experience with payroll processing, AP/AR, and reconciliations is required.
- Education: An Associate's and/or Bachelor's degree in Accounting is preferred. However, we will strongly consider candidates with extensive, proven industry experience in lieu of a formal degree.
- Location: Must be able to work on-site in Aurora, CO, five days a week.
