The Senior Structural Engineer will lead structural design project teams to create world-class designs for new projects, existing rebuilds, and redevelopments on a variety of electrical substation and related projects in the utility industry. Responsibilities
Lead structural design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion. Lead and oversee rigid bus analysis and the design of electrical substation steel structures, equipment foundations, structure foundations, and secondary oil containment. Perform design and analysis in the state of California adhering to seismic requirements and IEEE 693 seismic qualifications. Lead a team of multi-discipline professionals to ensure project success. Present designs and proposals to clients, permitting authorities, public interest groups, etc. Correspond and/or meet with clients, contractors, and vendors. Lead project proposal and qualification statements to achieve stated targets and standards for financial performance and scope management. Train and mentor less experienced engineers in their technical and professional development. Perform quality control reviews and ensure QA/QC process adherence. Participate in the development of project schedule, scope, budget, staffing planning, and construction planning. Apply expert knowledge of commonly used structural concepts, practices, codes, and procedures within the structural engineering services industry. Apply knowledge and experience to complex projects and find non-standard design solutions. Prepare and present technical reports for clients and industry publications. Build positive relationships with existing and new clients to further develop new business opportunities. Ensure customer satisfaction goals and expectations are met. Communicate and coordinate effectively with other engineering disciplines. Comply with company and site safety policies. Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program. Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in California and as a Structural Engineer (SE) preferred. Seven (7) years of substation structural engineering experience. Consulting experience preferred. Ability to work methodically and analytically in a dynamic, quantitative problem-solving environment with demonstrated critical thinking skills. Knowledge of substation electrical physical design principles. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong computer skills (e.g., RISA 3D, RISA FDN, HILTI, MFAD, RAM Connection, Idea Statica). Expert knowledge of standard engineering techniques and procedures. Strong knowledge of structural design codes (e.g., ASCE 113, CBC, ASCE 7, ACI 318, IEEE 693). Experience leading the discipline design for large projects and delegating work tasks to team members. Ability to lead execution of work and resolve issues in a team environment. Demonstrated critical thinking skills, ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment. Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills. Compensation and Benefits
