At Acuity, the Senior Design Engineer is responsible for product development from concept through production, which includes new product development, sustaining, and resolution of field problems. They lead electro-mechanical product design, redesign, part assembly, and detailed part drawings. The Senior Design Engineer also leads prototyping, testing, and assembly of samples. A successful Senior Design Engineer collaborates cross-functionally and leads various projects. Based on business needs, this position works onsite in Des Plaines, IL. Primary Responsibilities Include

Leading various aspects of the design process, including, but not limited to, the development of part geometry, assembly design, and drawing generation. Design work varies from new product development to product enhancements and cost reduction activities. Developing and distributing engineering data in the form of Engineering Change Notices, bills of material, and parts tracking. Partnering with the manufacturing facilities to resolve part or assembly issues, deviation requests, and bill of material errors to keep the manufacturing lines running and produce quality product. Conducts pilot/pre-production runs. Actively participates in, or occasionally leads, team meetings using the product delivery system (stage gate product development) for each major product. Initiating and developing concepts for new products from Project Charters, Specification Matrix provided by the Product Manager, and other avenues, such as reviewing competitors' samples and documentation, and free design techniques. Ensuring concepts are agreeable with standard manufacturing methods utilized in the appropriate manufacturing facility. Continuously improves productivity, quality, purchasing, and manufacturing processes, including sourcing new or alternate processes, equipment, and training resources while seeking advancements or changes in technology via tradeshows, vendors, or other methods. Submitting test requests and actively engaging with the testing group as necessary on any required follow-up. Submits prototyping requests and works directly with the model shop for prototypes and assembly of samples. Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field and 3-5 years of experience. Demonstrated understanding of engineering fundamentals. Effectively communicates verbally, in written form, and through sketches and engineering drawings. Proficient use of 3D CAD (SolidWorks) and PLM software (preferably Windchill), as well as Microsoft Office and related tools. Understands manufacturing methods such as stamping, drawing, casting, and extruding metals and plastics. Influences and enlists the cooperation of other team members to work towards completing and implementing new product development on time and on budget. Knowledge of UL / CSA and testing processes is a plus. Understand and adhere to the appropriate established industry and safety Standards. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Available to travel based on business needs, up to 5% (domestic and international). The range for this position is $91,400.00 to $164,400.00. Placement within this range may vary, depending on the applicant’s experience and geographic location.
