Join the Department of Parks and Recreation as a Recreation Director II (Swim). This position independently performs professional work in planning, organizing, and directing a comprehensive aquatic program at one or more municipal aquatic facilities. The responsibilities of a Recreation Director II (Swim) include: Developing specialized comprehensive aquatic programs, including tiny tot, senior citizens, exercise and water sports activities; Researching and anticipating community interest and needs, and planning and organizing programs and activities in response to these needs; Establishing program objectives and goals; Recruiting, training, and supervising instructors and lifeguards; Evaluating programs through feedback and statistics; Conducting feasibility studies and adjusting and offering programs as applicable; Developing and organizing special events, competitive swim programs, and other aquatic activities; Assessing budgetary requirements of the facility and preparing and submitting recommendations for operating budget; Recommending and enforcing departmental rules and regulations; Recommending and developing standards, policies and procedures for aquatic programs and facilities; Operating a light motorized vehicle to pick-up/drop off documents and supplies, and to attend training or meetings; Operating a Department of Parks and Recreation van or mini bus to transport program participants to various sites. Special Work Requirements: May be required to work evenings, holidays, and weekends. Will serve as a Disaster Response Worker during declared emergencies. Minimum Qualification Requirements: Citizen, national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment; Equivalent to graduation from a regionally-accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in recreation, physical education, education or a related field; One (1) year of professional experience in planning, organizing, and directing recreational activities; Possession of a valid American Red Cross First Aid Certificate or equivalent, and either an American Red Cross or American Heart Association Adult, Child, and Infant CPR and AED Certificate, to include care for choking and obstructed airway, or equivalent; Prior to appointment, possession of a valid appropriate driver's license (automobile/Type 3). License Requirement: Prior to completion of probation, possession of a valid American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer Certificate or equivalent, American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certificate or equivalent, American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certificate or equivalent, American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor Certificate or equivalent, American Red Cross Adult, Child, and Infant CPR and AED Instructor Certificate, to include care for choking and obstructed airway, or equivalent, and Department of Parks and Recreation van certificate.
