JOB TITLE : Benefits & Employee Leave Coordinator REPORTS TO : Executive Director of Human Resources STATUS : Full-Time, Non-Exempt (Level A) WAGES : $21.50-$28.00 per hour (based on experience) SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
The Benefits & Employee Leave Coordinator administers employee benefits, workers' compensation, and leave programs to ensure compliance and provide support to employees. This role is crucial for maintaining accurate records, managing vendor relationships, and safeguarding compliance with district, state, and federal requirements.
Coordinator positions within North Lawrence Community Schools represent higher decision-making authority, technical expertise, and competency than entry-level administrative support roles. These positions require specialized knowledge, independent problem-solving, and direct accountability for critical district functions. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Benefits Administration Administer employee benefits programs, including
health, dental, vision, life insurance, and retirement plans
(e.g., VEBA, 403(b)). Oversee enrollment processes, including
new hires, changes, and annual open enrollment . Manage employee benefits eligibility and ensure timely updates in
HRIS systems (PowerSchool) . Ensure accuracy in
benefits deductions
and payroll integration. Compliance & Reporting Ensure compliance with all applicable laws ( ACA, COBRA, FMLA ). Maintain accurate
benefits records and reporting
for audits, board meetings, and vendor reviews. Coordinate
life insurance portability/conversion rights
for terminating employees. Workers' Compensation Manage workers' compensation claims , ensuring accurate filing, compliance, and reporting. Track injury trends, assist with investigations, and work with district leadership to improve workplace safety. Serve as the liaison between
employees, healthcare providers, and insurance carriers
for claim resolution. Employee Leave Administration Administer leave programs, including
FMLA, sick leave, personal leave, and medical leave . Track leave requests,
ensure compliance , and coordinate with Payroll for benefit and pay adjustments. Educate employees on
their leave options
and assist with the necessary documentation. Process Improvements Identify and implement
process enhancements
to streamline benefits administration and improve efficiency. Stay updated on
industry trends
and regulatory changes to ensure competitive benefits programs. Administrative Support Schedule and organize
benefits-related meetings, trainings, and events . Maintain confidentiality and accuracy in
employee data and communications . Prepare
correspondence, meeting minutes, and reports
as needed. Other Responsibilities Perform additional duties as assigned by the
Executive Director of Human Resources . (Verification of Experience, E-Verify, Indiana New-Hire, etc.) QUALIFICATIONS Degree or certification in
Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
preferred (or equivalent experience). Minimum
2-3 years of experience
in benefits administration or a related HR role. Proficiency in
HRIS platforms (PowerSchool experience preferred)
and strong skills in Microsoft Excel and Google Workspace. Knowledge of
federal and state laws
related to employee benefits (e.g., ACA, COBRA, FMLA). Strong
organizational, analytical, and communication
skills. Ability to handle
confidential information with discretion . Valid
driver's license
and ability to travel as required.
