GEICO is seeking an experienced Senior Staff Engineering Manager in our Service Engineering- Policy Management Services organization.

This role focuses on building high performance, low-latency platforms and applications, leading a team of engineers to deliver robust experience improvements and enterprise-wide products. You will help drive our insurance business transformation and redefine experiences for our customers. Position Description

Our Senior Staff Engineering Manager is an engineering leader who collaborates with the engineering staff to innovate and build new solutions, improve and enhance existing solutions, and leverage them to solve critical operational problems. The role defines the strategy and execution of a technical roadmap to increase velocity and unlock new engineering capabilities within our servicing organization. The ideal candidate has deep technical expertise to drive system design, architecture and implementation, improve application performance, capacity benchmarking, availability and reliability, and to design and evolve cloud infrastructure and services. Position Responsibilities

Work with your Director to address project dependencies, negotiate and estimate incremental delivery dates for milestones with stakeholders, and deliver projects on time Identify and raise appropriate project risks, presenting detailed and implementable solutions or alternatives In partnership with Product Management, develop roadmaps and strategy, including identifying and reporting OKRs and KPIs for your team and services delivered Report on your team’s progress for project and other key metrics, and present ideas for improvement of product or project delivery Understand how requirements and design choices may impact systems across multiple areas, influencing and aligning direction across the organization Initiate and support performance evaluation of team members Cultivate a culture that motivates all levels of performers to higher levels of achievement Build and maintain relationships with your team to support an environment of trust Address technical or analytical skill gaps, challenging team members to share knowledge and learn new technologies Contribute as a hands-on technical leader to architecture, system design and implementation of services including UI/UX, Experience layers (Angular, React, Flutter), API and microservice development, storage/persistence, messaging and other technical areas Stay up to date with software engineering best practices and help drive AI enablement and technology in your teams Identify skill gaps that risk future deliverables and craft remediation plans Execute difficult conversations on development and performance Craft persuasive arguments to drive projects for process improvement, cost leadership, and customer experience enhancement Manage up to leadership and provide feedback when necessary Promote efficiency and utilization improvements Contribute to the team planning process and surface the team’s proposals Construct roadmaps, translate projects into deliverables, adjust priorities, and manage team capacity Qualifications

Fluency with C#/.NET, HTML-5, JavaScript/TypeScript, Angular/React, XML, JSON, RESTful Web Services, and Event Driven Architectures; Flutter is a bonus Fluency with at least one additional modern language such as Java, Python or Go; experience with open-source software is a plus Ability to be hands-on developing software at least 10-20% of the time Strong knowledge of system design, architecture and full lifecycle of design, implementation and productionizing core services and APIs Passionate about testing (unit, integration, functional, performance, etc.) Experience with RESTful and gRPC services, event-driven architectures, microservices, high-volume messaging technologies and storage/persistence approaches Knowledge of cloud computing concepts (SaaS, PaaS, IaaS) and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) Experience with application monitoring tools and performance assessments Understanding of SQL and NoSQL databases, including stateful services management Ability to construct and apply metrics for decision-making, prioritization, and progress visibility Strong site reliability engineering principles Strong passion for technology and engineering excellence Exceptional leadership and communication skills Effective negotiation abilities Adaptability and ability to learn technical concepts quickly Commitment to fostering a culture of trust, accountability, and continuous improvement Strategic thinking and ability to drive projects for positive change Experience

6+ years of professional software engineering experience, including software development lifecycle best practices 5+ years of development in a large-scale, mission-critical environment 5+ years of hands-on supervision in a technical environment 2+ years of experience with automated testing including Unit, Integration, and End-to-End functional testing Education

Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or related field, or equivalent experience Annual Salary

$130,000.00 - $300,000.00 The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final salary, including role scope, experience, location, and market considerations.
