Upon start, the selected candidate will be sponsored for a commensurate clearance for each government agency for which they perform AWS work. Job Responsibilities
Lead and architect system-wide solutions spanning multiple engineers and teams Drive technology strategy decisions, balancing short-term delivery with long-term vision Provide technical leadership in ambiguous environments where technology strategy needs to be defined Build consensus across teams and drive adoption of engineering best practices Mentor and coach other engineers, fostering a culture of robust software development Establish and improve operational practices including monitoring, telemetry, and incident management Identify and resolve root causes of endemic problems affecting multiple teams Design and maintain scalable, simple, and maintainable systems Effectively communicate technical designs and decisions to various audiences A Day in the Life
As an SDE III on our team, you'll collaborate with engineers, product managers, and operations teams across AWS to design and implement solutions that enhance operational efficiency. You'll: Lead technical design discussions and architecture reviews Guide junior engineers through complex problem-solving Review and provide feedback on designs and code from team members Participate in operational excellence activities including on-call rotations Engage with stakeholders to understand requirements and constraints Work with security teams to ensure solutions meet compliance requirements Drive continuous improvement in team processes and technical practices Basic Qualifications
5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team Preferred Qualifications
5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent Current, active US Government Security Clearance of Top Secret with SCI eligibility or above Amazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status.
