Position Highlights
include: Regulating surface water and groundwater discharges to the waters of Connecticut through DEEP's Water Permitting and Enforcement Division. Assisting with various tasks while gaining insight into water permitting, enforcement, and pollution prevention in industries regulated under the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES). A schedule of up to 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday, with the possibility of teleworking a portion of the work week. Selection Plan
involves: If selected for an interview, applicants will be contacted by the division's hiring supervisor in March/April of 2025. If offered employment, new hires must complete all new-hire paperwork prior to their first day of employment, including providing a copy of a state-issued ID and acceptable documents for Employment Eligibility Verification (I-9 form). Employment is contingent upon completion of a background check, which includes a review of employment, criminal, and motor vehicle records. Completion of mandatory trainings in safety, diversity, discrimination, and harassment via an online platform prior to beginning on-site work duties. The
Purpose of Job Class
is to perform one or more tasks and assigned duties of a seasonal nature in the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. Examples of Duties
include: Entering, organizing, reviewing, and interpreting technical information. Performing duties under the direction of an environmental analyst in an office, field, or laboratory setting. Analyzing data to prepare reports or correspondence. Using GIS to interpret spatial patterns or display program information. Assisting with the development of reports, environmental reviews, plans, or documents. Performing various clerical duties in support of the Division program goals. Knowledge, Skill, and Ability
requirements include the ability to follow instructions. Preferred Qualifications
are: Experience or college coursework in environmental protection, water pollution control, stormwater, wastewater, environmental chemistry, biology, hydrology, or public health with a focus on water quality. Experience conducting research, writing, and presenting reports. Experience utilizing MS Office (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.). Experience utilizing GIS software or StoryMaps. Special Requirements
may include: Incumbents in this class who are assigned as supervisors of small recreational units will perform emergency first aid as needed and will be required to obtain and retain a Basic First Aid Certificate. Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator license. Possession of a valid license to apply pesticides. College training in a specific field. Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification may be required by specific state facilities. Physical Requirements
include: Possessing and maintaining adequate physical strength and stamina to perform the duties of the class. Demonstrating American Red Cross (ARC) waterfront lifeguarding swimming skills for incumbents performing lifeguard services. The State of Connecticut is an
