The State of Wyoming is seeking a professional, detail-oriented individual to serve as a Driver's License Field Examiner in Rock Springs, WY. This vital role within the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) involves evaluating applicants for driver licenses and state identification cards through written, vision, and road skills tests. You will verify documentation, assess eligibility, ensure compliance with state and federal requirements, and provide clear guidance to applicants regarding licensing processes. The position also includes data entry, vehicle inspection, customer interaction, and the issuance of official credentials. Strong communication, observational, and organizational skills are essential, along with the ability to use computerized systems in a fast-paced environment. Checks and verifies applicants' driving records on state and national computer information systems. Administers computer-assisted, written, vision and skills tests to applicants for the purpose of obtaining a driver's license. Screens applicant's physical, mental and visual abilities to safely operate motor vehicles per state and federal law. Collects fees and accounts for transactions performed and monies received. Accurately enters, processes, tracks, and reviews biological/demographic data. Processes data related to driver's license and driver record information. Researches and communicates information concerning driver's license or driver record data with law enforcement, courts, the public and the department and other states, ensuring that data is interpreted and entered correctly. Produces written documentation to customers, including the person affected and the courts. Maintains confidentiality in the review of personal information to determine eligibility for a driver's license. Deciphers legal documents. Accounts for funds received as payments for fees by making or preparing daily deposits. Verifies and processes electronic and manual insurance filings and cancellations. Provides quality customer service and/or technical assistance to the public, driver license examiners, department personnel and other agencies regarding the driver licensing process. Operates signature and photo capture devices. Monitors motor vehicle accidents regarding proof of insurance issues and suspension proceedings. Performs vehicle inspections prior to driving skills testing. Shares information concerning driver's license or driver record data with law enforcement, courts, the public and the department. Preferences: Strong customer service or public-facing experience Ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Knowledge: Knowledge of examiner's procedural manual, rules and regulations. Knowledge of pertinent federal policies and procedures, as well as state statutes. Knowledge of the Driver License Information System. Knowledge of detecting fraudulent documents. Minimum Qualifications: Education: Associate's Degree (typically in Business) Experience: 0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in business) OR 2-4 years of progressive work experience (typically in Business) Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: None Physical Working Conditions: Travel is required to various WYDOT locations as needed to help other locations. Could be up to 40 hours a week, or average of 25-35 hours per week. Notes: FLSA: Non-Exempt The Wyoming Department of Transportation is a Drug-Free Workplace. Internal candidates would be required to remain in the position for a minimum of one (1) year from their promotion date.
