Orange County Utilities provides water resources and solid waste recovery services to protect and enrich the lives of the citizens and guests of Orange County Florida. The Solid Waste Division oversees the contract for curbside collection of garbage, yard waste, and recyclable materials for over 240,000 homes in Orange County, and the operation and maintenance of the Orange County Landfill, two transfer stations, and recycling processing operations. The landfill is the largest publicly owned and operated landfill in the state of Florida.

Orange County Solid Waste Division is seeking a highly qualified individual to fill the

Operations Specialist

position. This position is responsible for overseeing activities associated with the maintenance and repairs of heavy equipment and rolling stock.

Job Description

General Functions : Coordinates activities performed by the work unit, schedules work activities to maintain facilities in efficient operating conditions, reviews work performed by a variety of trades, responds to emergency situations to correct operating problems in a timely fashion. Work requires independent judgment under general supervision of a designated supervisor.

Representative Duties/Assignments : Plan, schedule and supervise assigned employees engaged in a variety of routine to complex tasks. Issues routine work orders, monitor status, inspect work in progress and upon completion. Provide guidance to employees on the proper methods and use of equipment. Consult with manufacturers and vendors on special maintenance and repair problems. Work may involve administrative duties as well as maintenance and/or repair functions using complex, technical or heavy equipment and other resources. Must provide adequate tools to perform mechanic¿s duties if required. May serve as acting Senior Supervisor in the absence of the Senior Utilities Maintenance Coordinator. Order and maintain all supplies to assure efficient operation of the shop. Inspect work performed by subordinates and road test vehicles. Operate computer to maintain records on preventative maintenance and repairs. Maintain accurate records and paperwork, such as work orders, service logs, parts, etc. Interpret and ensure compliance with County policies and procedures. Examine work areas for cleanliness and safety. Identify safety hazards and take precautionary measures. Perform tasks in a variety of conditions, including adverse weather and environmental. Must be available to respond to emergency calls and perform work outside of normal work hours if needed. Perform other related duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications :

Graduation from high school or equivalent and three (3) years of experience as an automative or diesel mechanic; or an equivalent combination of education, training or experience.

Required to possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver¿s License.

Must possess and maintain a Class B license with hazmat endorsement within 6 months of hire or promotion

Must possess and maintain Landfill Operators certification within one (1) year of hire or promotion

Preferences

Recognized certifications such as Automotive Dealership certifications or possess a competency certification in a related field (diagnostics, automotive or diesel mechanics, fuel system, hydraulic systems). Familiar with Maximo system Familiar with software from ¿ All ¿ Data, Mitchell, Tech Tools, Snap ¿ on Scanners, Jay- Pro, Cummins Insight Familiar with Excel, Outlook, Word and PowerPoint Application Deadline

Salary Information

Pay Grade: 015 - From $25.00 to $32.49 FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
