PRIMARY PURPOSE: Responsible for inspecting, identifying, and treating pest infestations in all district facilities. The technician will ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including those related to pesticide application in schools. This position plays a vital role in promoting a safe and healthy environment for students, staff, and visitors.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Certification/Education :
High school diploma or equivalent preferred Must have a valid Texas driver's license and meet and maintain the insurance requirements of PISD Must pass an initial drug test and be part of a random drug testing program. Must pass a criminal history check.
Special Knowledge/ Skills/Experience
General knowledge of tools used in the designated craft. Interpret and follow the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Policy for public schools as determined by State Regulation and District Policy. Ability to communicate well and deal with all people courteously and professionally in stressful situations. Ability to work independently and manage time effectively. Must have an IPM certification. Five years of Entomology experience preferred.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Inspect facilities and grounds regularly for signs of pests and conditions conducive to infestations. Identify pest problems and determine appropriate treatment methods. Apply pesticides and other pest control measures following regulatory requirements and Integrated Pest Management (IPM) practices. Maintain accurate records of all inspections, findings, treatments, and chemicals used, in compliance with district policies and state laws. Coordinate with building staff and administration to schedule treatments with minimal disruption to educational activities. Respond promptly to service requests or reported pest issues. Educate school staff about proper sanitation and structural practices to help prevent pest infestations. Maintain inventory of supplies, chemicals, and equipment; ensure proper storage and labeling. Stay current on pest control techniques, safety regulations, and best practices, including attending trainings as required. The ability to perform sanitation and pest inspections in kitchen facilities. A general knowledge and awareness of the potential for disease and health-related ramifications of pest infestations, "Typical and non-Typical." Performs termite control for sub-terrain, Formosan sub-terrain, and drywood termites. Measure area dimensions requiring treatment. Removes live and dead animals from District sites Uses various types of traps, chemicals and baits for control and/or extermination of various pests Must have a working knowledge of computer systems regarding email, work order, and time entry systems. Maintain the shop, equipment, and vehicle in order. Assist other crafts as needed. Must be willing to respond to occasional after-hours emergencies Perform other duties as assigned

Physical Demands/Environment Factors : Strenuous walking, standing, climbing, and heavy lifting must have use of all faculties. Must be able to work from ladders and elevated platforms. Work outside. Exposure to hot and cold temperatures. Exposure to dust, toxic chemicals, and materials. May work on slippery and uneven surfaces.
