Payroll Specialist
The Payroll Specialist is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely processing of employee compensation. This includes managing payroll systems, verifying timekeeping data, calculating wages, handling deductions, and maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. The role may also include responsibilities in accounts payable, benefits administration, and HRIS data management. This is a direct hire position located near Schaumburg, IL.
Key Responsibilities
Collect and verify timekeeping information from employees. Calculate and process salaries, bonuses, commissions, and other compensation. Ensure accuracy in tax withholdings, deductions, and garnishments. Administer direct deposits and paper checks. Maintain accurate payroll records and documentation. Prepare and distribute payroll reports and income statements. Address employee inquiries regarding payroll discrepancies. Ensure compliance with labor laws and payroll tax regulations. Collaborate with HR and Finance teams to resolve payroll issues. Support certified payroll reporting and union benefits submissions (if applicable). Assist with onboarding and offboarding payroll-related tasks. Recommend and implement process improvements for payroll operations. Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent; associate or bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or HR preferred. 2–5 years of experience in payroll processing; union payroll experience is a plus. Familiarity with payroll software (e.g., ADP, Workday, Sage, QuickBooks). Strong understanding of payroll regulations and compliance requirements. Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to handle confidential information with integrity. Proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP) and other reporting tools. Certification such as FPC or CPP is preferred. Job Details:
