About the Role:
The Union Janitor position at the Chrysler Tech Center, 1560, plays a critical role in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for all employees, visitors, and stakeholders within the facility. This role ensures that all designated areas, including offices, restrooms, common spaces, and technical work zones, are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized according to union standards and organizational policies. The janitor will contribute to the overall operational efficiency by promptly addressing cleaning needs, managing waste disposal, and reporting maintenance issues. This position requires adherence to health and safety regulations, as well as collaboration with other facility staff to support a productive workplace. Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. Previous experience in janitorial or custodial work, preferably in a unionized environment. Ability to operate standard cleaning equipment and use cleaning chemicals safely. Physical capability to perform manual labor including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods. Basic understanding of health and safety regulations related to cleaning and maintenance. Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in a large industrial or technical facility. Familiarity with union work rules and collective bargaining agreements. Certification in OSHA or other workplace safety training. Ability to work flexible hours including early mornings, evenings, or weekends if required. Strong communication skills to effectively coordinate with team members and supervisors. Responsibilities:
Perform routine cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and polishing floors and surfaces throughout the facility. Clean and sanitize restrooms, including replenishing supplies and ensuring fixtures are in proper working order. Empty trash receptacles and manage waste disposal in compliance with environmental and safety guidelines. Report any maintenance or repair needs to the appropriate department to ensure timely resolution. Follow all union guidelines and safety protocols while using cleaning equipment and chemicals. Assist with setting up and breaking down furniture or equipment for meetings and events as needed. Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and communicate restocking needs to supervisors. Collaborate with other janitorial staff and facility management to ensure consistent quality and coverage.
