Position Summary

Under the general direction of the Chief Deputy Director and in collaboration with the Chief Information Officer, the incumbent serves as the Chief Data and Artificial Intelligence Officer (CDAO), CEA-B, for policy and operations. Provides leadership for enterprise data management, analytics, data governance, digital transformation, and the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to optimize statewide performance and drive innovation. Responsible for creating and managing data and analytics strategies and executing practices that drive measurable business outcomes. The incumbent establishes policies for data management and AI use, affecting Caltrans employees, transportation stakeholders, and the public. The role includes leading the data and analytics function, developing talent, maturing data culture, building trust, and evolving technology capabilities, with emphasis on ethical considerations and regulatory compliance. Examination will evaluate the SOQ. A passing score of 70% is required to establish eligibility. Hiring interviews will be conducted with the most qualified candidates. Results will be communicated in writing. The examiner reserves the right to revise the examination plan as needed. Applications are retained for twelve months.
