SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, but following established policies and procedures, performs scientific investigative research in areas related the biology of the neutrophil and the inflammatory cascade. Researches literature in the field, participates in the design of experimental protocols and develops new procedures to carry out established research objectives. Conducts experiments using in vitro and or in vivo techniques; collects and analyzes data using statistical methodology. May assist in writing presentations and papers for publication based on the research performed. RESPONSIBILITIES:

Conducts experiments according to established protocols and research methodology using in vitro techniques on human neutrophils.Participates in the design of experimental protocols to achieve the scientific objectives of the research project.Develops research methodologies within the parameters of experimental protocols and research objectives to allow quantitative and qualitative evaluation and interpretation of data obtained.Gathers, tabulates, graphs develops explanatory charts, and analyzes data using statistical methodology. May use computer programming to assist in the data analysis.Participates in the interpretation of the results of experiences through conferences with supervisor and other researchers to review data compared to hypothesis and research methodology in instances of inexplicable data.Reviews all literature pertaining to research being conducted in the scientific area of interest.May assist in writing presentations and papers for publications based on research performed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences with 2 - 3 years progressively more responsible related experience. Requires a working knowledge of statistics, computer programming and research methodology.Requires an in-depth knowledge of the scientific field in which the research is being conducted.EXPERIENCE:Two to three years experience in the particular research field.WORK ENVIRONMENT:Completion in a laboratory environment with possible exposure to human blood products.INDEPENDENT ACTION:Performs independently within the department’s policies and practices. Refers specific complex problems to the supervisor when clarification of the departmental pollicies and procedures are required.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:Provides functional guidance to other research staff as necessary. Pay Range: $47,143.10-$77,818.83
