Why does the job exist?

This position will perform custodial duties that include but are not limited to, cleaning floors, washing walls and glass, removing trash, making minor repair and exterminating insects and rodents in order to maintain a clean and sanitary environment at a long-term care facility.

How does it get done?

Service, clean or supply restrooms. Clean building floors by sweeping mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming. Gather and empty trash. Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures. Mix water and detergents or chemicals in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications. Dusting washing windows.

Residents, Visitors and Employees at a long-term care facility.

Ideal Candidate

Will have: The ability to provide customer and personal service The ability to perform physical activities that require considerable use of you arms legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials. The ability to work independently guiding oneself with little supervision, and depending on oneself to get things done. Will have:

Eighth grade education.

Employment Requirements

Employment is subject to criminal background check pursuant to New Mexico Caregivers Criminal Screening Act (Sections 29-17-2 through 29-17-5 NMSA 1978 and 7.1.9.1 through 7.1.9.11 NMAC) and is conditional pending results.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an institutional setting both indoors and outdoors in inclement weather conditions. Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset people within the facility. Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc. May be subject to the handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals.

Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet. Position may be required to work rotating shifts, weekends, overtime, and holidays.

State of New Mexico employees may be impacted by the Public Health Order dated December 19, 2022, which requires facilities licensed or certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), including all hospital types, long-term care facilities, nursing homes, hospice facilities and rehabilitation facilities, as well as assisted living facilities and adult day care settings, to adhere to all COVID-related requirements prescribed by CMS, including, but not limited to masking and staff vaccination.
