The Principal Data Architect is responsible for shaping the enterprise data strategy, architecture, and governance across the organization. Reporting directly to the CTO, this role ensures that data is structured, secure, and optimized for reporting, analytics, and decision-making. Acting as a technical thought leader, the Principal Data Architect partners with business and technology teams to design scalable, modern data platforms that enable insights and long-term growth.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Data Architecture & Strategy

Define and maintain the enterprise data architecture, ensuring integration across operational, financial, and customer systems. Develop roadmaps to modernize legacy systems and transition toward cloud-based, scalable data solutions. Align data architecture with organizational priorities, compliance requirements, and long-term business objectives. Data Platforms & Reporting

Architect and optimize data warehouses, lakes, and pipelines to support reporting, analytics, and BI tools. Ensure data models support business-critical reporting, KPIs, and performance dashboards. Collaborate with IT and business teams to standardize reporting frameworks and self-service analytics. Governance & Quality

Establish and enforce data standards, quality metrics, and master data management practices. Partner with security and compliance teams to ensure adherence to privacy, regulatory, and audit requirements. Define metadata, lineage, and cataloging practices to improve trust and transparency in data. Innovation & Modernization

Evaluate emerging data technologies, including cloud-native services, AI/ML platforms, and automation tools. Recommend innovative approaches to improve data accessibility, speed, and reliability. Drive continuous improvement in reporting and analytics capabilities. Cross-Functional Collaboration

Partner with business leaders, finance, HR, and operations to translate requirements into scalable data solutions. Collaborate with IT peers on integration, infrastructure, and application development alignment. Serve as a subject matter expert and advisor to the CTO on data and reporting strategy. Documentation & Standards

Create technical documentation including data dictionaries, models, and architectural diagrams. Establish repeatable design patterns for data pipelines, transformations, and reporting. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience. 10+ years of progressive experience in data architecture, data engineering, or enterprise reporting roles. Proven expertise in data warehousing, BI platforms, and enterprise reporting tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Looker). Strong proficiency with SQL, ETL frameworks, and cloud data services (Azure Synapse, AWS Redshift, GCP BigQuery). Hands-on experience with data modeling, governance, and master data management. Solid knowledge of data security, compliance, and regulatory requirements. Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to translate business needs into scalable technical designs. Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence technical and business stakeholders. Advanced certifications in cloud data platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP). Experience implementing enterprise-scale modernization programs, including migration to cloud-native data platforms. Familiarity with AI/ML data pipelines, predictive analytics, and automation frameworks. Exposure to DevOps and DataOps practices for CI/CD in data environments.
