Job Title: Surgical Technician Profession: Tech Specialty: Scrub/Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 1030-2300 Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Two (2) years current experience required in a large operating room License: N/A Certifications: BLS certification required Must-Have: Completion of a Surgical Technician training program or graduation from an accredited school or Certified Surgical Technician credential from either NBSTSA or NCCT with ten (10) years of experience. Description: Provides assistance and support to surgeons by preparing and providing instruments and equipment during surgical procedures in the operating room. Works under the supervision of the surgeon. Facilitates a safe, effective, and orderly operating room to maximize patient safety. Demonstrates ability to problem-solve in relation to the procedure being performed. Maintains current knowledge of various equipment, procedures, and supplies. Adheres to proper surgical procedures of aseptic technique and safety in the use of instruments and equipment. Performs instrument counts prior to each procedure and maintains an accurate count of sponges, needles, and instruments during the procedure. Secures and prepares all supplies and instruments required for surgical intervention before procedures. Ensures the preparation and maintenance of the sterile field in the operating room. Prepares patient skin for surgical treatment. Positions and re-positions patients during surgery. Helps monitor patients during surgery. Provides supportive care during the pre-operative phase. Performs scrub functions. Ensures that specimens are correctly handled and routed to the proper source. Maintains current knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medications used intraoperatively. Keeps current with developments in the field through participation in seminars, workshops, and publications. Follows all federal, state, and departmental safety procedures. Must be a team player, flexible, and accustomed to a fast-paced environment. Ortho, ENT, and/or vascular experience is a plus. Epic experience preferred but not required; training available on-site.
