Job Title: Surgical Technologist Profession: Surgical Tech Specialty: Surgical Services Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Shift Hours per Shift: 8 hours per day, 5 days a week Experience: Minimum of 3 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, CST Must-Have: Strong orthopedic background, previous travel experience preferred Description: The surgical services department has 4 operating suites and 1 endoscopy suite. An average of 8 cases are performed daily. Required certifications include Certified Surgical Technologist, with NCCT or NBSTSA certification. Common cases include orthopedic surgeries such as total joints, sports medicine, hands and trauma, as well as general, gynecological, and endoscopic procedures. Surgical technologists are expected to have some experience in sterile processing and high-level disinfection. All personnel are required to assist with cleaning and turnover of operating rooms, alongside the orderly team. Charge nurses and assistant nurse managers are present on each shift. Shifts are usually scheduled Monday to Friday from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with some adjustments as needed. Call begins at 3:00 PM, with requirements of typically 1 night per week or 4 weeknights per month. Staff may also be assigned to cover one full weekend per month. Holiday call assignments may occur during the contract period. On-call personnel must be within a 30-minute response time to the facility. The surgical technologists also cover endoscopy procedures. Blue scrubs are provided according to the surgical services attire policy. Travelers will be paired with a preceptor for unit-specific orientation, during which unit norms and system values will also be discussed. The facility employs a tracking system for instruments and utilizes electronic medical records for documentation.
