Overview Colorado State University is a community focused on world-class teaching, research, and service with a strong benefits package and emphasis on work-life balance. The School of Social Work (SSW) is part of the College of Health and Human Sciences and is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. The SSW serves students and communities through education, research, outreach, and service. The SSW currently includes 9 tenured/tenure-track faculty, 8 non-tenure-track faculty, and 43 staff members, research professionals, and graduate assistants. Academic programs include the Bachelor of Social Work (in-person and online, 350 students), Master of Social Work (in-person and hybrid, 150 students), and PhD in Social Work (17 students). Certificates offered include Conflict Resolution and Mediation, Non-Profit Administration, School Social Work, and Advanced Clinical Behavioral Health. Position Summary Colorado State University (CSU) is seeking an engaged, innovative, visionary, strategic, high-energy leader for the position of Professor and Director of the School of Social Work (SSW). This is a 12-month, full-time faculty position. We seek applicants with a proven track record of academic leadership, innovative research, effective teaching and mentorship, meaningful service, and strong interpersonal communication and organizational skills. Candidates should demonstrate high ethical standards and operate transparently and collegially. They should be responsive to the needs of faculty, staff, and students within the SSW and be committed to elevating the SSW to national and international recognition. Areas of Responsibility Leadership within the SSW: develop a shared vision and strategic plan; transparent communication and advocacy inside and outside the SSW; build and support capacity to advance education, research, and outreach; promote faculty, staff, and student engagement and retention; encourage professional development for faculty, staff, graduate students, and post-doctoral fellows. Research and Scholarship: foster an exceptional climate for research; support procurement of external funding for SSW stakeholders; maintain active involvement in research and scholarly activities and professional societies. Fiscal Management: steward resources and budgets; develop strategies for revenue growth and responsible budgeting; explore entrepreneurial approaches. Personnel Management: set clear job duties and performance metrics; uphold high standards in teaching, research, and outreach; mentor faculty and staff; maintain a positive work environment and resolve conflicts. Facility Oversight and Space Improvement: ensure facilities meet the needs of faculty, staff, and students. Commitment to Excellence: support student success initiatives and faculty hiring/retention aligned with the Land-Grant Mission; strengthen undergraduate and graduate student engagement through a rigorous curriculum and career guidance. Qualifications Required Doctorate in Social Work or a related field. Academic credentials suitable for a Professor with tenure (mid-career Associate Professor or higher). Demonstrated record of externally funded research. Commitment to promoting research excellence through mentorship and leadership in grant-writing and research development. Proven teaching and mentoring excellence and leadership in curricular development. Administrative and personnel leadership experience. Commitment to excellence with resource planning and accountability for outcomes. Preferred Experience with assessment and accreditation processes. Experience maximizing faculty, staff, and student professional growth and success. Efforts to increase student access and success. Experience leading tenure and promotion processes and annual reviews. Fundraising and donor relations experience. Ability to foster open, collaborative relationships with external partners. Familiarity with community outreach for a land-grant institution. Experience with budgeting, financial assets, and forecasting.
