Job Description

The purpose of this position is to operate the County’s solid waste and recycling convenience site. Location: Northern Convenience Site (11894 Roxboro Road, Rougemont NC 27572) Hours: Monday - Saturday 6:45am until 1pm.

This class works under close supervision according to set procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Opens and closes the convenience site, removes litter, answers phone, fills containers that need emptying and prepares daily reports on site activity.
  • Checks entering vehicles for solid waste decals and assists customers with the disposal and recycling of their solid waste.
  • Maintains cleanliness of the site.
  • Notifies supervisor of activities, violations, and hazards.
  • Prepares reports as required.
  • Demonstrates, models, and actively engages in the alignment and execution of the County's Strategic Plan Initiatives to ensure the objectives of the core goals are achieved to benefit Durham County employees, citizens, and the environment.
  • Position requires “On-Call” after hours duties and/or overtime work. This position is considered an essential position and includes support duties during inclement weather situations.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

Requirements

  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Good customer service skills are highly desired.
  • Must be able to work outdoors and stand for long periods.
  • Ability to complete a variety of daily report forms.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

  • High School Graduation or GED equivalent.
  • Six (6) months of related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Physical Demands

Performs medium work that involves walking, standing, stooping, jumping, lifting, digging, pushing and raising objects and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis.

  • Involves routine and frequent exposure to: Dusts and pollen; Extreme heat and/or cold; Wet or humid conditions; Vibration; Fumes and/or noxious odors; Traffic; Moving machinery; Electrical shock; Height; Radiation; Disease/pathogens; Toxic/caustic chemicals; Explosives; Violence

  • None

Preferred Qualifications

  • Type II Refrigerant Recovery Certification.

Standard Clauses
