Description of Work Unit

The Office for Inclusive Excellence leads initiatives to ensure Colorado State University meets its Land‑grant mission of access and success. APACC supports Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA), SWANA, multiracial, transracial adoptee, and Third Culture Kid students with their transition to CSU and throughout their academic careers by providing support for their academic, professional, cultural, and personal development.

Position Summary

The Director of the Asian Pacific American Cultural Center (APACC) is a full-time, 12-month, Administrative Professional position reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Strategic Student Success Initiatives in the Office for Inclusive Excellence. APACC staff includes an Assistant Director, Student Success Coordinator, and student staff/volunteers. The Director oversees all programs, services, and operations of the cultural center, leading with awareness of current topics within APIDA, SWANA, multiracial, transracial adoptee, and Third Culture Kid communities on campus and beyond.

The Director provides leadership in the development and implementation of education and outreach programming on social justice issues. Knowledge of, and experience with, educational programming from an intersectional framework is essential. The position also embraces CSU’s Principles of Community.

The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States by the proposed start date; the department will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.

A signing bonus of $2,500 max is available for successful candidates.

Required Job Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Student Affairs, Sociology, Social Work, Asian American Studies, Ethnic Studies or a related area.

  • Five years professional, full-time experience in an administrative/educational leadership position in higher education.

  • Demonstrated ability to understand and articulate APIDA/SWANA/multiracial/transracial adoptee/Third Culture Kid needs from a social justice perspective, including intersections of race, ethnicity, nationality, sexuality, class, disability, gender, and other identities.

  • Demonstrated experience working with APIDA/SWANA/multiracial/transracial adoptee/Third Culture Kid students and campus constituents.

  • Knowledge of academic retention, transition, and cultural and career concerns of APIDA/SWANA/multiracial/transracial adoptee/Third Culture Kid students and communities.

  • Experience implementing and evaluating student success initiatives from a culturally responsive and equity-minded approach.

  • Experience with coordinating, planning, and facilitating social justice educational programming on intersectionality, power, privilege, and oppression across identities.

  • Experience working with diverse student populations.

  • Experience supervising professional staff and students.

Preferred Job Qualifications

  • Strong interpersonal and diplomatic skills with sensitivity to APIDA/SWANA/multiracial/transracial adoptee/Third Culture Kid communities.

  • Experience building a community of support and advocacy, including mentoring and educational programming.

  • Experience in higher education with faculty, staff, students, alumni, and donors.

  • Commitment to equity and inclusion, with demonstrated outcomes.

  • Grant writing, budgeting, and fiscal management experience.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with experience in presentations and public speaking.

  • Ability to identify learning outcomes and use assessment techniques.

  • Ability to translate the Center’s mission to the University community and support education and student development.

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as necessary.

Essential Duties

Job Duty Category: Leadership and Team Management

  • Serve as organizational leader and collaborative member of the APACC professional staff team.

  • Serve as a member of the Office for Inclusive Excellence Leadership Team (OIE).

  • Provide leadership in developing and implementing the vision and mission of APACC and align with OIE and University priorities.

  • Supervise, hire, support, develop, and evaluate 2 full-time professional staff, with indirect supervision of student staff/interns and graduate students.

  • Develop annual budget and manage fiscal accounts for APACC’s multiple budgets.

  • Advocate for equity and social justice, centering APIDA/SWANA/multiracial/transracial adoptee/Third Culture Kid identities.

  • Provide information resources to current and prospective students and families.

  • Advocate for APIDA/SWANA/multiracial/transracial adoptee/Third Culture Kid students to address needs inside and outside the classroom.

  • Develop partnerships with campus departments and colleges to enhance retention and graduation for targeted student groups.

  • Foster an inclusive environment to support belonging for APIDA/SWANA/multiracial/transracial adoptee/Third Culture Kid students.

  • Provide leadership and vision for APACC’s Student Success programming and initiatives.

Duty/Responsibility

  • Administer and manage the center’s operations, including accounts, inventory, policy development, reporting, publications, and external funding proposals.

  • Supervise department personnel to support the campus-wide mission.

  • Conduct ongoing assessment of programs and effectiveness to improve outcomes.

  • Support and guide university-recognized student organizations and student government.

  • Develop policies to support student transition, retention, and graduation.

  • Payroll approvals and procedures.

  • Participate in divisional and center staff meetings and campus committees as appropriate.

Duty/Responsibility

  • Secure funding to support APACC operations and student success initiatives.

  • Initiate programs for alumni engagement and build relationships with alumni and external constituents.

  • Represent CSU and APIDA/SWANA/multiracial/Third Culture Kid communities locally, regionally, and nationally.

  • Build partnerships with campus and community leaders to support students.

  • Assist the community on issues affecting APIDA/SWANA/multiracial/Third Culture Kid individuals.

  • Facilitate trainings and workshops on social justice and identity intersections.

  • Collaborate on projects with the Office for Inclusive Excellence and other campus units, including recruitment, events, and leadership programs.

  • Provide internship opportunities for students to engage with the APACC community.
