General Overview

The Production Manager will provide leadership and direction across multiple shifts to ensure client’s daily, weekly, and monthly Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are achieved in Safety, Quality, Delivery, Inventory, and Productivity. This role will oversee production output, align capacity to meet customer demand, and foster a culture of Safety, Stability, and Continuous Improvement in alignment with Toyota Production System (TPS) principles.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a team of Production Area Managers across Welding, Machining, Paint, and Assembly to achieve schedule adherence, productivity, and delivery goals.
  • Act as a key member of the Plant Leadership Team, collaborating to build a world-class manufacturing culture driven by safety and stability.
  • Ensure appropriate spans of control between Production Managers, Group Leaders, and Team Leaders to enable continuous improvement across all levels.
  • Drive standardized work practices, ensuring adherence and auditing compliance to prevent deviations.
  • Foster a “Leaders as Teachers” culture, coaching leaders and frontline team members in problem solving, Kaizen, and lean methodologies.
  • Promote “Stop, Call, Wait” culture to quickly respond to abnormalities, implement countermeasures, and address root causes.
  • Develop and manage skills matrix, workforce flexibility, and training plans; partner with HR to ensure smooth onboarding for new hires.
  • Collaborate with Production Schedulers to define daily production plans; ensure staffing and resources are aligned while minimizing overtime.
  • Own and maintain the plant capacity model, updating it with new equipment and process improvements; evaluate capacity in 3, 6, and 12+ month buckets.
  • Work closely with Planning, Scheduling, and Demand teams to align capacity with sales forecasts.
  • Partner with Engineering and Maintenance to ensure equipment performance meets production requirements.
  • Ensure quality is never compromised, partnering with Quality leadership to maintain customer standards.
  • Monitor and track KPIs daily; ensure corrective actions are defined and executed.
  • Lead Daily Gemba Walks; maintain area boards, assign owners, and track progress.
  • Drive Lean Manufacturing initiatives including 5S, Visual Management, Kanban, JIT systems, Kaizen events, and waste reduction projects.
  • Assess cost effectiveness of manufacturing processes; recommend and implement improvements to reduce costs and increase efficiency.
  • Lead and coach teams in continuous improvement and Six Sigma methodologies, building capabilities across all levels.

Qualifications

Must-Haves:

  • 5+ years of Production Management experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong background in Lean Manufacturing, Toyota Production System (TPS), 5S, Kanban, and JIT systems.
  • Experience managing and coaching Group Leaders and frontline production staff.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Proven track record of improving throughput, reducing waste, and lowering defect rates.
  • Experience planning and monitoring production schedules.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with ERP systems (SAP preferred).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Preferred:

  • Automotive manufacturing experience strongly preferred.
  • SAP or similar ERP experience.
  • Safety-first mindset with ability to instill a strong safety culture.
  • Proven ability to coach and develop leaders at multiple levels.
  • Data-driven decision-making with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Continuous improvement mindset with ability to drive change across operations.
  • Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with peers in Quality, Engineering, Maintenance, and Supply Chain.
