$70,000.00/yr - $80,000.00/yr

Overview

The Production Planner is responsible for creating and managing production schedules to ensure timely delivery of steel and metal products that meet customer specifications and quality standards. This role requires close coordination with operations, procurement, quality, and logistics to balance production capacity, raw material availability, and customer demand in a fast-paced, heavy manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, issue, and monitor daily/weekly/monthly production schedules for steel and metal fabrication, machining, and finishing processes.
  • Review customer orders, forecasts, and specifications to translate demand into accurate production plans.
  • Coordinate with procurement and warehouse teams to ensure availability of raw materials, including steel coils, bars, plates, and specialty metals.
  • Optimize machine, furnace, and equipment utilization to minimize downtime and maximize throughput.
  • Monitor in-process production, track bottlenecks, and adjust schedules to accommodate delays, maintenance, or quality issues.
  • Maintain and update ERP/MRP systems with production schedules, material requirements, and work orders.
  • Collaborate with plant supervisors and shop floor personnel to communicate priorities and resolve scheduling conflicts.
  • Ensure compliance with quality standards, safety regulations, and customer specifications throughout the production process.
  • Track KPIs such as on-time delivery, scrap reduction, throughput, and capacity utilization, and recommend improvements.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives, including Lean Manufacturing and process optimization, to increase efficiency and reduce waste.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of production planning or scheduling experience in a steel, metals, or heavy manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of metal fabrication, machining, casting, or rolling processes.
  • Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Excel; SAP or Oracle experience a plus.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with shop floor teams, supervisors, and management.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and manage multiple projects in a high-volume manufacturing setting.
  • Fluent in English; Spanish is preferred.
