CVICU RN Job Details

  • Location: Morgantown, West Virginia 26505
  • Healthcare Setting: Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU), 10 beds
  • Assignment Length: 13 weeks (with potential extension)
  • Start Date: October 20, 2025
  • Nursing Shift: Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts per week (19:00 – 07:00), including weekdays and weekends
  • Total Hours per Week: 36
  • Estimated Weekly Salary Range: $1680 - $1730
  • Patient Ratio: 1:2 (may vary by patient acuity)
  • EMR System: Cerner

CVICU Registered Nurse Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of recent CVICU RN experience in a hospital or acute care setting
  • Active West Virginia or Compact State RN license (pending license considered)
  • Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS (American Heart Association certifications only)
  • Proficiency with ACT (Activated Clotting Time), direct open-heart admissions from OR, pressure monitoring, Swan-Ganz, Impella, and CRRT
  • At least 2 references from a manager or charge nurse within the last 2 years
  • Must reside at least 100 miles from the facility (75-100 miles considered on a case-by-case basis)
  • Flu vaccination required (medical exemptions only)

CVICU RN Responsibilities

  • Deliver specialized nursing care for post-cardiac surgery patients (CABG, valve replacements, thoracotomies) and complex cardiac cases (STEMI, cardiogenic shock, post-code)
  • Monitor and manage patients with advanced cardiac devices, including Swan-Ganz, Impella, CRRT, arterial lines, LVAD/RVAD
  • Assist with and perform procedures such as chest tube insertion/removal, arterial and central line management, and sheath removal
  • Interpret ABGs, manage ventilated patients, and titrate cardiac and vasoactive drips
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams (IV, respiratory, physical therapy, pharmacy, rapid response)
  • Float to Medical ICU or Step Down Unit as needed
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in Cerner EMR
