Overview
CEC Motor and Utility Services has an immediate full-time opportunity for an experienced Utility Worker at our Service Center in Palmetto, FL. The ideal candidate will be from the water, sewer, and lift station/utility construction industry, have extensive knowledge of underground utility construction, and lift station rehabilitation. Hours: Monday - Friday (7:00 am - 3:30 pm).
Compensation and Conditions
Pay Frequency: Weekly
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Work Environment: Work is primarily outdoors. Conditions can include exposure to inclement weather, working next to open wet wells, public roadways, lift stations, manholes, trenches, sewage, and various chemicals. Employees may also be exposed to direct sunlight, dampness, noise, heavy machinery, and mechanical and electrical equipment.
Physical Demands
- Must be able to move items weighing up to 65 pounds regularly, traverse rough terrain, and work in or over water/wastewater, heights, or confined spaces.
- Must be able to work in various physical positions, including sitting, squatting, standing, walking, and driving.
Reporting
Reporting Relationships: The Utility Worker reports to the Utilities Manager.
Notes
Note: This position requires drug, background, and motor vehicle record screening.
Responsibilities
- Expose and excavate utility piping.
- Enter confined spaces to access wastewater wet wells for demolition.
- Carry out a range of trades, including carpentry, concrete work, pipework, plumbing, grading, and landscaping.
- Keep the job site neat and secure by collecting and storing all tools and equipment.
- Aid in the loading and unloading of trucks and the hoisting of materials.
- Utilize tools properly and safely.
- Follow and transmit both oral and written instructions.
- Work as part of a team and independently.
- Follow safety protocols at all times.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in underground/utility construction, including trenching and excavation, pipe installation, equipment used, safe digging operations, OSHA requirements, and confined space entry.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to engage in strenuous physical labor for long periods, including maneuvering uneven terrain, working at heights or in confined spaces, over water/wastewater, and carrying up to 65 pounds as necessary.
- Ability to interpret and react to audible danger signals.
- Ability to work independently and efficiently complete tasks according to a schedule.
- Proficiency in operating heavy machinery and tools safely and effectively.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to understand and follow instructions and convey information.
- Reliability and punctuality; collaborates well with a team.
- Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and acceptable motor vehicle record.
Preferred Qualifications
- CDL A or B.
Compensation
$27 - $32 / hour
