Overview
Heavy Equipment Operator or Trainee - Apache Junction. This recruitment is for both Heavy Equipment Operator Trainee and Heavy Equipment Operator. The position is located with Pinal County Public Works.
Salary
Starting salary: $34,500.00 (Trainee) and $39,411.00 (Operator) per year. PAY GRADE 05 for the Trainee and PAY GRADE 07 for the Operator.
Responsibilities
- Operate a variety of specialized equipment to maintain Pinal County roads, roadways, drainage systems and infrastructure, in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures.
- Operate PWD vehicles and motorized equipment, including light trucks, water trucks, mowers, loaders, back hoes, grader, dozer, end dump, and belly dump where applicable.
- Perform manual labor tasks, repair potholes, clear debris from culverts and roadways, move and set barricades, and perform routine maintenance on trucks and equipment.
- Maintain required daily logs, reports, and maintenance records; follow safety rules and report hazards, equipment problems, and emergencies.
- Assist with traffic control during emergencies and cross-train in PWD work methods and safety procedures.
- Complete tasks in the interest of public safety and ensure compliance with safety standards; adhere to workplace values of accountability, commitment, and teamwork.
Minimum Requirements - Heavy Equipment Operator Trainee
- High school diploma or GED or equivalent combination of training, education, or experience.
- Valid Arizona Driver’s License required within 30 days of hire.
- Must obtain Class A Arizona State Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) “standard transmission” with tanker endorsements within first 5 months of employment.
Minimum Requirements - Heavy Equipment Operator
- Three (3) years of experience in construction, maintenance, and related equipment OR one (1) year of experience as a Pinal County Operator (Trainee).
- Must obtain Class A Arizona State Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) “standard transmission” with tanker endorsements within first 5 months of employment.
- Or an equivalent combination of training, education or experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
Preferred Qualifications
- OSHA Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) certification; First Aid/ CPR / AED training upon hire.
- Basic Work Zone & Traffic Control (Flagger Certification) upon hire.
- Valid CDL Permit.
Special Requirements
- Trainees that are rehires of less than one year of separation will be placed into Trainee classification until the six month requirement is met.
- Rehires will be placed in the appropriate position on a case-by-case basis.
Physical Demands
The work is very heavy and may require exerting over 100 pounds of force occasionally and more frequently over 50 pounds, with the ability to balance, climb, crawl, crouch, finger, reach, kneel, lift, push, pull, and operate vehicles and equipment. May be required to be on-call.
Work Environment
Work is performed outside in varying weather conditions.
