- Patient Census: Average 12 neonates, 21-bed NICU
- Floating: Required to Pediatrics, PICU, and Full Term Nursery
NICU Registered Nurse Qualifications
- Active Maryland or Compact RN license (required at time of application)
- Minimum 2 years of recent Level III NICU RN experience
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification
- STABLE certification
- Experience with Cerner charting system preferred
- Previous charge nurse experience preferred
- Professional references required
- Flu vaccine required (medical exemptions accepted)
NICU RN Responsibilities
- Deliver specialized nursing care to neonates, including ELBW infants, preemies, and newborns with surgical or NAS diagnoses
- Administer blood products, anti-seizure medications, antibiotics, antivirals, and insulin
- Assist with high-risk deliveries and perform specialized procedures (lumbar puncture, chest tube management, central line care)
- Monitor and manage ventilators, oxygen delivery systems, and advanced respiratory support (Bubble CPAP, HFNC, Nitric Oxide, Oscillators, Vapotherm)
- Perform neonatal dosage calculations, glucose monitoring, and phototherapy
- Support breastfeeding and provide developmental care for neonates
- Float to Pediatrics, PICU, and Full Term Nursery as needed
- Educate and support families throughout the NICU stay
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams, including respiratory therapy, pharmacy, radiology, and social services
