About This Opportunity This position is responsible for the manufacturing implementation of customer provided and Vander-Bend proprietary designs for sub-assembly and sub system level electromechanical assemblies. Develop, sustain, and improve manufacturing methods, tooling, and tests to ensure manufacturing capability and efficiency.
Responsibilities
Provide support and guidance to engineering and production staff, including team leader responsibility.
Provide customers with technical support during NPI and production lifecycles.
Improve upon released designs, assembly processes and test methods for quality improvement, and cost reduction.
Develop and improve tooling/fixture/test equipment designs and fabrication/assembly processes for manufacturability/testability.
Perform continuous improvements to production processes, sourcing, yield, part/assembly manufacturability, process control, and workflow.
During NPI lifecycle, perform DFM activities, working with customers and suppliers as necessary.
Support the training of production personnel on assembly and test methods.
Lead or assist in the determination of root cause for product component failure and drive implementation of corrective actions.
Provide suppliers technical support in the sourcing or development of parts/assemblies.
Document results of process improvement projects.
Requirements Education and Experience
4-year degree in Manufacturing Engineering or a closely related field
2+ years of work experience in a related field in a manufacturing environment. Additional experience may be substituted for part of the education requirement or advanced degree can be substituted for experience.
Electronic, Safety, and/or Electromechanical testing, and tool/fixture design experience
Knowledge of metal fabrication techniques (sheet metal, welding, brazing, investment casting, machining, and metal spinning) and plant layout design for efficient workflow
Experience working with MRP/ERP systems
Manufacturing Engineering experience supporting mid-volume production (ECNs, BOMs, work instructions, equipment/tooling/fixture/test development, troubleshooting)
Experience with NPI process/deliverables and demonstrated ability to drive engineering projects
Ability to use Minitab or other statistical software to analyze data
Experience using root cause analysis tools such as 5 Why, Fishbone, 8D etc.
Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
Knowledge of Outside Processes (anodize, chem film, paint etc.) and ability to work with Suppliers to achieve part requirements
Ability to work effectively within teams, or independently in a fast-paced environment
Ability to effectively train manufacturing personnel on assembly and test methods
Understanding of Lean principles and continuous improvement methods
Experience working with one or more advanced 3D CAD systems
