The Department of Anesthesiology & Perioperative Medicine at UMass Chan and Memorial Health in Worcester, MA is recruiting into the role of Associate Residency Program Director for our growing and fully integrated Residency Program of 44 Residents. UMass Memorial Health is the region’s Level I Trauma Center and Safety Net Hospital serving a community of more than 1.5 million residents. The Associate Program Director reports to the Program Director and assists in the operation of the residency program. The Associate Program Director must dedicate to this role at least the defined % FTE required by the specialty-specific program requirements (using a 40-hour work week unless otherwise stated). Salary support for the Associate Program Director as defined in the ACGME specialty-specific program requirements will be provided. Eligible candidates should have no less than 2 years of clinical experience in Academic Medicine and be board certified in Anesthesiology.
Qualifications
Must hold a MD or DO degree and qualify for a Massachusetts license
Be board certified in anesthesiology or board eligible
Responsibilities
The Program Director must define the responsibilities of the Associate Program Director to meet the needs of the program while maintaining overall authority, accountability and oversight for the operation of the program.
Areas of involvement by the Associate Program Director may include:
Education: oversee and ensure quality of didactic and clinical education across all sites; ensure residents have required experience with procedures, diagnostics and therapeutic methods.
Supervision: monitor resident supervision at all participating sites.
Evaluation: develop, implement and assess evaluation methods.
Quality Improvement: integrate departmental clinical quality improvement programs into the residency program.
Duty Hours/Learning Environment: monitor resident duty hours and schedules for compliance with ACGME requirements and reduce excessive service demands; ensure back-up support when patient care is difficult or prolonged; monitor resident stress and well-being.
Faculty Development: support medical education research and scholarly development for professional advancement.
Other Program Involvement
Attend residency town hall meetings (when not on vacation or offsite).
Participate in committees: Clinical Competency Committee (CCC) — including CCC Chair role; Program Evaluation Committee; Residency Recruitment Committee.
Residency interviews (9 sessions per year); application review; mentoring/advising of medical students; availability during office hours; letters of recommendation.
Staff and program support: stipend for the role; minimum 0.2 FTE academic time in accordance with ACGME requirements.

New compensation package with salaries from $447K to $520K based on experience, fellowship training and sub-specialty practice
