Perform non-sworn, un-armed security and parking enforcement duties to provide a safe environment for faculty, staff, students and visitors to the Stanford campus. Position Description

Public Safety Officers (PSO) support the overall public safety mission of the Stanford Department of Public Safety (DPS) by performing a variety of functions. PSOs work under the general supervision of a civilian supervisor, sergeant, or other designated officer in charge. Patrol designated areas of the University by foot, bicycle, motor vehicle or other DOT approved method of transportation for suspicious and/or illegal behavior, safety hazards, unlocked doors, opportunities to assist the public, etc. Enforce violations of the University Parking Code; provide traffic control services and/or logistical support during emergencies and special events. Provide first aid or CPR; stand a security post in potentially dangerous locations; staff the Operations Desk monitoring daily security and event operations. Wear a uniform and duty belt with limited gear; position may require moderate to strenuous activity; candidate should be physically fit and adaptable. Shifts may include day, swing, or night shifts (including holidays) with possible weekend work and mandatory overtime. Outdoor work in inclement weather is possible. All benefits-eligible DPS personnel are considered essential university personnel for emergencies and critical incidents. Core Duties

Safety and Security : Patrol campus areas, document concerns and notify appropriate departments. Respond to alarms and provide information and assistance to community members. Parking Enforcement : Enforce parking regulations; issue citations; conduct parking utilization surveys. Event Support : Post and remove event/parking/traffic control signs; deploy and remove safety equipment; transport equipment; provide logistics and safety during campus events; overtime may be required. Operations Desk Support : Staff DPS Operations Desk; monitor radio/phone; issue equipment; track activities; draft mass notification as needed. Additional Duties : Provide logistics during emergencies; implement Incident Command System during major incidents; other duties as assigned. Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience : High School diploma or GED or combination of education and relevant experience. Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities : Exceptional customer service; effective communication; ability to remain calm; ability to understand and translate information; good judgment; confidentiality; ability to use two-way radio; familiarity with Stanford campus; ability to work independently or as part of a team; basic computer skills; ability to pass First Aid/CPR certification; valid CA driver license. Physical Requirements : Frequent standing/walking; desk tasks; light manipulation; occasional lifting up to 40 pounds; vision and hearing requirements as described. Working Conditions : Shift work (days, swings, overnights, weekends, holidays); 24-hour response availability; may be exposed to labs, outdoor conditions; mandatory overtime; PPE required as assigned. Compliance and Training

Background investigation required; may include criminal history checks. PSOs may be trained for dispatch, emergency call taking, and special events logistics; familiarity with Incident Command System. Training may include forklift driving and OC spray testing; Field Training Program required. Selection Process
