To be an athletics coach in MCPS, applicants must be interviewed and hired by the principal or designee at the school where the vacancy exists. Coaches must be qualified and are hired for one season. Schools should hire qualified MCPS teachers or certified educators if available. Emergency coaches may be hired if no qualified MCPS personnel are available. Qualifications for Certified Coaches
Be an MCPS teacher or certified educator employed by MCPS Complete or be enrolled in the two-credit MCPS course "Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries, Coaching Fundamentals and CPR/AED" Complete/submit the online MCPS application Qualifications for Emergency Coaches
Level I: Be a certified teacher (not necessarily MCPS employed), complete the required course, and submit the application. Level II: Be at least 21, a high school graduate, complete the course, and submit the application. Additional Details
