The Department of Recreation & Wellbeing provides competitive and recreational opportunities for students, faculty, staff, and campus-affiliated community members. The department offers a wide range of recreational activities and state-of-the-art equipment, including dozens of clubs and programs. Position Summary
Involves instructional or program activities related to recreation, leisure, and fitness in an accredited environment; provides first aid and emergency care as necessary, and responds to user needs. Works for Cal Adventures programs and serves as an instructor. Independently supervises participants in campus recreational programs. Responsibilities
Provides advanced or specialized activity instruction to program participants, individually or in groups. Leads specialized activities such as long camping trips that require safety and survival knowledge for remote locations and varied outdoor conditions. Maintains a supportive environment for program participants and facilitates involvement. Interacts with recreational program participants in a positive manner. May lead other camp counselors and provide guidance and instruction to other program instructors on best practices, procedures, methods, and techniques for program and survival activities. Keeps current on teaching methods, techniques, and skills through continuing education and certification. Participates in required professional development activities and university trainings. Required Qualifications
Advanced knowledge of the program activity. Demonstrated work leadership and interpersonal skills for lead capacity, with ability to collaborate across the organization. Service orientation, program management, sound judgment and decision-making, critical thinking, creative problem-solving skills. Ability to work effectively across all organizational levels. Strong client service orientation, entrepreneurial spirit, and creative thinking. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proficiency in basic computer applications. Ability to learn campus policies and procedures. High School Diploma and/or equivalent experience/training. Salary & Benefits
