This role is part of the Fitness Department at the Berkeley Recreation & Wellbeing and supports the campus community with health, wellness, and fitness programs. Provides instructional guidance and program activities related to health and fitness in an accredited environment; provides first aid and emergency care as necessary, and responds to user/customer needs. Educates participants on fitness and health-related topics; conducts fitness assessments and personal training sessions, designs and implements individual workout programs, demonstrates and coaches clients on proper use of cardiovascular and strength equipment; discusses health and fitness goal setting; promotes safe technique and form when training. Maintains client records, keeps weekly availability for appointments, and participates in required department meetings and online training. Promotes the Department of Recreational Sports in a positive manner. Responsibilities

Provides advanced or specialized activity instruction to program participants, individually or in groups. Conducts sessions at the RSF, other campus locations, or virtually. Programs and periodizes training types: strength, cardiovascular, flexibility, balance, speed/agility/quickness, plyometrics and core training. Develops modifications and progressions for clients; adapts workouts in a busy environment with available equipment. Maintains a welcoming and supportive environment and facilitates participation. Delivers engaging, safe sessions for all fitness levels and motivates clients. Answers questions to support healthy living and wellness goals. Builds authentic relationships with members and connects them with the Berkeley Rec Sports community. Maintains safe fitness spaces and proper storage of equipment; instructs clients on equipment usage and body mechanics. Updates availability in scheduling software and tracks client progress and administrative records. Maintains required professional certifications (CRR/AED) and pursues ongoing professional development. Required Qualifications

Working knowledge of program activity practices and procedures. Verbal and written communication skills in English; active listening, critical thinking, multitasking, time management, and flexibility. Service orientation, program management, sound judgment, creative problem-solving, and entrepreneurial spirit. Basic computer skills; ability to learn campus policies; ability to work effectively across organizational levels. Current certification with one of NASM-CPT, ACSM-CPT, NSCA-CPT, ISSA-CPT or ACE-CPT. American Red Cross or American Heart Association CPR with AED. High school diploma or equivalent experience/training. Preferred Qualifications

Standard First Aid Training Certification. Salary & Benefits
